Guest guest
New Carpeting has so many toxins it will kill you just as fast-get someone to do the work for you-seal the doorway-put the carpet out the window-take up the moldy sub-floor-make sure there is no water problem that has caused it-what is left on the floor?-cement? scrub and clean with disinfectant that has quat-amonia. dry-paint with non-toxic cement paint- Not cement?-put down new sub floor-not chipboard-then a flooring that will be non-toxic-like cork-or marmoleum. A total cleaning of everything that was in the room before is a necessity before you return them to the room-You cannot be to carefull. Things should be cleaned as you take them out of the room-try and eliminated cross-contamination-the whole Apt really needs a total hepa-cleaning and scrubbing. Thanks,
Guest guest
First, get yourself a good N-100 or P-100 mask. Protect your lungs. When you open up a once-wet wall cavity that has mold growing inside of it, you can release a extremely dangerous amount of mold. That mold can not only ruin your own health, it can contaminate an entire home and make it very unhealthy for a long time. It can contaminate somebody's belongings - making them sick. So its essential to be very careful to contain the mold when you crack into that wall. Enclose the entire area with plastic sheeting and get a fan that has a HEPA filter attached to its exhaust, create negative air pressure inside of your containment and exhaust the (HEPA filtered) air outside, far away from anybody's window.. (if you are in a densely populated area NOT in an air shaft!!!) Water damaged porous building materials (like gypsum wallboard) must be replaced. There is no way around this. They must be removed and replaced with new. The moldy dust inside those cavities has to be removed, and moldy insulation, etc. too. Save yourself some time and accept this from the beginning. Even 'killed " mold is still toxic to people. If the cause of condensation, flooding, leaks, etc, is not fixed, mold always comes back. There is no magic bullet or magic oil or liquid that makes problems disappear. Tear out all the moldy wallboard, and then continue removing further so that you are absolutely sure that all the material that got wet and moldy has been removed. Dispose of it inside a sealed heavy plastic bag inside of another sealed plastic bag. Then clean out the inside of the walls using soapy water with bleach and an abrasive brush. When you are finished scrubbing them down, rinse all the dirty moldy soap/bleach water away - rinse touroughly with clean water. Then dry the entire area out. Then afterward, you can replace the wallboard. If any structural members need replacement, you should consult a licensed contractor or engineer. Don't leave mold or bleach inside of a wall to make people sick. If wood (

I always thought it needed organic material like sheetrock or wood or paper. I have a slightly damp basement which has been gutted because of mold but I have left it " naked " so to speak-I haven't put walls back up or anything because I'm too scared mold will grow. Now I'm worried-the basement has seemed fine all summer but am I wrong? Thanks for your advice-Surella
Guest guest
tp help keep dry dust particles down out of the air because masks dont away work and itwell get in your cloths, hair, ect. use of pump srayer with water to wet everything down before stirring it up and as you go along. however, sence your allready sick, you really shouldn't mess with it. I'd block the room off and tell the landlotd he needs to deal with it or work something out so you can move. --- In
