gained 20 pounds and not changes my diet. In November I was started on 5mcg of

generic Cyclomel. About 2 weeks later I developed a rash under my arms, the same

rash that developed when I was taking Warfarin for a DVT. I also started

stopting which for 63 years old is a concern. Has anyone had this reaction to

these drugs. I have asked my Endo for Armour or Nature-Thoid but he refused.

Any sugestions?

Hi Sharon,

I would look for a knowledgeable doctor. In the mean time you need to be on Rx'd

brand name synthetic thyroid meds.

Although you may think that your reactions are to generic T3, if you refilled

your generic T4 at that time it may be the T4 or maybe even both. There are

about 20 manufacturers for L-thyroxine (generic T4). You can be getting

different generic drugs at each refill.

Levothyroxine drugs both name brand and generic, do NOT have consistent potency

from one manufacturer to the next, so the possibility exists that with each

refill you will get a batch from a different manufacturer supplying too much or

not enough levothyroxine plus different inactive ingredients could be

problematic.

Generic Liothyronine sodium tablets are made by Mylan, who is not the most

honest business and has had some FDA problems in the past. This drug is the

generic version of King Pharms' drug, Cytomel, synthetic T3 hormone. (There

could be another company that makes generic T3. I just have no knowledge of it.)

Again there are about 15-20 manufacturers that make generic levothyroxine sodium

(T4) drugs. Mylan, Lannett and Sandoz being the most known. (Lannett's generic

is the same as the name brand Unithroid made by JSP.) This is the T4 drug my

daughter takes and the only one she tolerates. I go to the same pharmacy and

they give her the Lannett T4, I will only accept Lannett levothyroxine pills for

her, so she is getting the exact same medication each time. When they are out of

Lannet generic I pay extra for name brand Unithroid (the same exact drug).

With Hashis we must stop eating refined foods. That is the only way I found to

regain most of my previous health. I changed my lifestyle to a Paleo one - no

sugar, grains, dairy, soy, corn or high starch foods and NOTHING processed. I do

have a slice of white cheese once in a while for a treat.

Good luck and I hope this is helpful,

~Bj
