Guest guest
So its been a very long time since I have given a update for my nephew. Conner is now 3 and doing quite well now. It has been a long long up hill struggle. For those that do not know. His mom was using drugs when she was pregnant with him as well as drinking all the time even thought she was only 19 when he was born. She and my brother were not married and split up while she was still pregnant. The year before my brother and her got together she was pregnant with a little girl that was steel born at 8 1/2 months she was later told that the little girl had downs as well as many other complications. When Conner was born all the test were done and he was diagnosed MDS. My brother then spent months trying to see his son before he filed at the ages office for child support and visitations, he was given supervised visitation for 6 months by the courts so that he could learn to care for his son, he spent 3 days supervised visits when she told him she didn't have time to watch him take care of Conner so she told him he could take him and go. So for the next few months when she had time and wanted to go out she would call my brother for him to come get him. after the 6 months of " supervised visits " when she was available for visits my brother was able to get his son more times then not he wasn't able to cause she was out of reach having her phone turned off or not be home when she said she would be or just not open the door when he would come to get the baby. so over the next year or so Conner was in therapies when ever she would answer the door or wouldn't call and cancel his sessions. every year in about april may she would call my brother and tell him to come get Conner, my brother would have him for a month or two when she would come back and want him back and my brother wanting his son to have both his mother and father in his life returned his son, while my brother had him in these months hw would developmentally progress in many ways at a little over a year he was almost walking and babbling sounds when he when back to his mother he digressed back in to a child a that would not even set up on his own and in weeks time he would not even crawl or try to babble any longer. finally this past February when she called and wanted my brother to take him for a few months my brother took the right steps and went back to court and received temporary custody, while they were gathering information it was found out that the mother had not done all that she was support to do for Conner. out of the 92 therapy visits that Conner was support to have in the 2 years of appointments he had actually had 23. that while she had him she would sit him in a highchair and at 2 years old we was still not walking or even crawling, he was still on the bottle and not eating solid foods. Since February my brother has had Conner he's is not only walking but running and keeping up with his cousins. he's in speech therapy where he's not only learning signs language but he is also learning to talk his word vocabulary is growing by the day. he's now eating and feeding him self, he's off the bottle and has gained 10 pounds. he will be starting school this month. his mother now has supervised visitation pending the out come of a drug test that was ordered in april that she has yet to take. Conner is a happy and healthy 3 year old, he has slight facial fetters and other then the speech delays he has no other trades of mds . we all treat him like hes any other child in the family. Guest guest
Hi Thank you so much for giving us this update. I have often wondered about Conner and how all of you were doing. It is sad that Conner has had to endure all of this in his short life, but I am glad to hear his dad has him now and he is doing so well! Please keep in touch!
