Guest guest
This was on television news. Here it mentions fan circulating air but in another article it say 'ventilation' fan so I wonder which was used, since they can be different matter. http://www.news-medical.net/?id=41858 Infants who slept in a bedroom with a fan ventilating the air had a 72 percent lower risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome compared to infants who slept in a bedroom without a fan, according to a new study by the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research. The study appears in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine.
Guest guest
I wonder if those rooms also had the window cracked open slightly?
Guest guest
There was a fairly sudden problem with SIDS in New Zealand some time back, and they launched a study to figure it out. The upshot of it was the mattress was causing it. It was more concentrated in the lower income brackets, they found old mattresses in use. As a fix, they taped a sheet of poly on the top and sides of the mattress, leaving the bottom open. Later, a man in England identified the culprit in the mattresses as a mold, producing fungal toxins. Of course, he was hailed as the hero that he was, he was punished. The world is really insane. Anyway, more air in the room with a baby sleeping on their backs would have a similar good effect. Putting a sheet of poly (NOT PVC) seems like an easy safe simple fix. > > This was on television news. Guest guest
SIDS and open window: http://tinyurl.com/4ljyqz The new study also looked at whether windows were open or closed. Babies who slept with an open window were less likely to die from SIDS compared to babies who slept with a closed window, but the finding wasn't considered statistically significant. The study was funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health and Kaiser Permanente.
Guest guest
I wonder whether they'll look into the chemical out gassing from things surrounding the baby. That would make sense. Maybe I would be expecting too much. llaci
Guest guest
Some more baby tips: Don't put crib up against the wall where it doesn't get cross ventilation. Don't overdress baby. Keep window slightly open most of the time. I also can't help but wonder about the fabrics used these days and the dyes. llaci
