Guest guest
Hi Kristal,Interesting that you found giving up gluten to be the the hardest part. For me that wasn't so tough. I've been gluten free for seven weeks now, and yes I have found it to be a big help. Giving up iodine, on the other hand, has been extremely difficult -- not because I crave specific foods so much, but because I am having a hard time finding out which foods contain iodine. I stopped eating all seafood and anything packaged that contains salt. But every now and then I eat something and break out into hives, only to research and find out that the food contains iodine. (All dairy, eggs, fresh cranberries, and dried fruits contain iodine. It makes me wonder why they bother to put it in salt!)My TPO antibodies went from over 200 to 70 since I gave up gluten and started the supplements...still too high, but much better.Best wishes to you, too! Please keep me posted on your progress with the program. Bonnie To: Thyroiditis Sent: Saturday, February 25, 2012 5:34 PM Subject: Hope for Hashimoto's Program Bonnie--I have not initiated the plan like you have, but I live in UT and I had had some of the recommended lab draws done and started taking Selenium and Zinc as recommended and hope to have a formal consult with Dr. Haskell in March. I believe as he stated that unless you address the initial problem you will continue to have issues. I am also on Synthroid and generic Cytomel. Did you see a big difference with going Gluten Free? That is the hardest part for me! I am very curious to see how my hormones and cortisol levels come back. My reverse T3 was a big high and my TPO antibodies were down from 178 to 114 (anything over 34 is high). Best wishes to you! Guest guest
So glad to hear your TPO count is down and that the new diet and supplements are helping! You are right--iodine is in a lot of things one would never really think it is. Continue to provide your updates as well. Take care, Kristal > > Hi Kristal, > > Interesting that you found giving up gluten to be the the hardest part. For me that wasn't so tough. I've been gluten free for seven weeks now, and yes I have found it to be a big help.
