Guest guest
I guess my daughter would be considered to have OTC; when we were in New York Dr. B said that she met the classical definition of a tethered cord with the conus at L2/3, but when I got the finalized clinic report, it notes that it was only actually at L1/2 (which would make it the occult version). Having said that, I will say that Tasha (surgery 9/30/2008) was doing much better physically and pain-wise, but had not seen much if any improvement YET in her urological symptoms up until earlier this month when, due to a prank at school, she took a hard fall and an updated MRI shows that she now has three bulging disks right in the area where she had surgery. I am guessing that having had surgery made those muscles looser and less able to protect the spine as well as normal; with it being the holidays we are still waiting to hear back from Dr. B as to his recommendations. But, I have sort of gotten off the track... Long story short...in two and a half months she went from spending the majority of her time in wheelchair to being able to walk independently with support (crutches or using a grocery basket for support) for as much as half an hour (with breaks). She had a PFD previously at another facility in Janurary 2007, but actually got worse after the PFD. Everyone, of course, is different, but Tasha was doing super after having the detethering. I hope all works out for your daughters as well. Let me know if you have any further questions.
