Guest guest
I have worse problems in summer. I think the extra daylight messes with my brain. I feel like it is middle of the day at 11pm. So that doesn't help matters. I take a 5mg cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxer) before bed. It helps me not wake up totally sore with knotted up muscles. A 10mg and I feel great in the morning, no sore muscles but I end up feeling groggy and out of it the next day. My problem is muscles don't fully relax when I sleep, the muscle relaxer helps. F. I am longing to get a good nights sleep. I am sure that is why my legs ache so much because the muscles never fully relax. Would people please share what they have done to get to sleep. thanks, Therese
Guest guest
You mean other than Ambien, I assume? LOL Melatonin is amazing for me. I take 6 mg about half an hour before bed and try to keep it on a regular schedule. It helps me fall asleep and I also give 3 mg to my 7 year old son. We started giving him 1 mg when he was about 2 on the advice of our naturopath. It was so helpful and still is. ie
Guest guest
Hi, Therese, I don't know how you eat but I have been on Wheat Belly for several months and it has helped me tremendously in getting a good nights' sleep. You might check out wheatbellyblog.com. Once you get rid of the toxins from wheat, it helps you sleep better. Guest guest
Thank you for your input, however, I have read in the past on some posts here that person's with Hashi's shouldn't take Meletonin. I will consider it though unless someone can give me a good reason why it shouldn't be taken. Thanks again! Therese > > You mean other than Ambien, I assume? LOL > > Melatonin is amazing for me. Guest guest
, You mentioned it helps your muscles relax, but does it actually help you fall asleep? Glad it worked for you. Therese > > Hi, Therese, > I don't know how you eat but I have been on Wheat Belly for several months and it has helped me tremendously in getting a good nights' sleep. Guest guest
Hi Therese, At a very low time for me on my Hashi journey I followed the suggestions in the book: " The Melatonin Miracle " authored by Walter Pierpaoli and Regelson. I was convinced to try this natural hormone supplement to restore my severe sleep deprivation. The authors advocate starting low and increasing dosage gradually from 1-3mg to 6-9mg, which I did. It worked for me. If you are interested, check out the book at your local library. I only took it until I regained good sleep then slowly decreased it until I no longer needed it. I do take melatonin infrequently now for jet lag or on the rare occasion when my sleep is very much interrupted. I had read that melatonin increases antiTPOabs but cannot find any pertinent studies that actually show that. According to some pre 1990s studies melatonin enhanced immune function and thus this required that a caution be placed on supplements for those with autoimmune conditions stating to be careful in using it. However, since then, there haven't been any significant mentions of its influence on autoimmune conditions. It would appear at this point that using a moderate dose of melatonin should be fine for those with autoimmune diseases. Occasional use of melatonin seems to be very safe. Although, he does NOT have Hashis, my FIL has been taking 9mg daily for melatonin's eye protection benefits. His ophthalmologist said he should take it to keep cataracts at bay. At age 86 he is still enjoying a mostly full and healthy life. He has been taking it for at least 25 years, maybe longer with no bad effects and no cataracts. The relevant point here is that melatonin affects different people differently. Best, ~Bj > > > > You mean other than Ambien, I assume? LOL > > > > Melatonin is amazing for me. Guest guest
Thank you BJ! I don't have time to read the book right now because we are moving soon, but do you mean start on a low dosage for several days and then increase to the next dosage for several days (so it builds up in your system), OR do you mean increase dosage EACH day until you find a dose that works for you? Also, can you tell me a brand that worked for you? Thank you. Therese > > > > > > You mean other than Ambien, I assume? LOL > > > > > > Melatonin is amazing for me.
