Guest guest
Without being TMI, I have had 'women' problems on and off for the last 5 years. The worst is the fishy smell right after my period. It goes away around ovulation. The doctors don't offer any help but to take antibiotics. Ironic thing is that antibiotics cause this same issue. I also remember the last time I took antibiotics that I had a slew of UTI's after. I am reluctant to take antibiotics and repeated use for the same issue doesn't seem to be addressing the real issue. As far as my thyroid goes, I have a mild case of Hashimotos which is not being treated. Tried synthroid but it made me so dizzy that I could barely walk not to mention serious ringing in my ears. I think I have low hormone levels but no one ever seems to mention these. Does anyone else have chronic or recurrent bacterial vaginosis? What has worked for you to treat it? Thanks for any suggestions,
Guest guest
Hi , BV is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora. (Not to be confused with candidiasis or trichomoniasis, which are not caused by bacteria.) In the past, I had to deal with both fungal and bacterial bugs. I suggest you start by taking a good probiotic to replenish the *needed* good bacteria. Antibiotics kill all bacteria both good and bad. Diet is very important, too. Reacting badly to T4 is not uncommon. It can also happen when the adrenals are fatigued. I suggest you test via a saliva cortisol panel. A magnesium deficiency is very common in Hashis. It is estimated that over 90% of Hashis has a Mg deficiency causing all kinds of problems, such as, menstrual, bloating, mood swings, depression, heart, muscles, type 2 diabetes, weight gain, restless leg syndrome, etc. Once I improved my Mg level I had more energy, sharper brainpower and it protects against wide range of small common concerns. I believe magnesium has helped me in reducing hair loss, damaged skin, scalp and nails. I hope this is helpful to you, ~Bj > > Without being TMI, I have had 'women' problems on and off for the last 5 years. The worst is the fishy smell right after my period. Guest guest
That is interesting about the magnesium helping you, BJ. I went off my magnesium after going gluten-free because my blood tests showed a normal level again (finally). But I wonder if my struggle this past year with recurrent vag infections has to do with that. , you are welcome to discuss anything medical on this board, even if it's personal, but you may also e-mail me directly if that is more comfortable, as I've struggled with this issue a lot - BV and yeast. I even had both at the same time, and bad urinary symptoms which my gyn thinks may have been Interstitial Cystitis. I've read this can flare up during vag infections and often occurs with other autoimmune conditions. What has helped me most is catching the infection early, and then treating with a good probiotic. There is one called PB that Whole Foods sells at a reasonable price - still in the refrigerated section so you know it's high quality. It was recommended by Dr. Christiane Northrup, author of Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom. There are others like Renew Life and FemDophilus that are also good but twice the cost. In my experience acidophilus alone or other cheap probiotics do not work. I take one PB capsule in the morning and one in the evening every day, whether I'm having symptoms or not. Then if I notice any irritation I will also use one capsule vaginally. That seems to work for me right now. BV can be very difficult to cure medically. Most recent gyn I saw had a patient use the antibiotic gel as directed, then once a week for 6 months! I said no thanks - that gel is carcinogenic. I think if your thyroid is off vaginal infections are more common. I didn't get them until I got Hashis. I personally don't think it's a reaction to T4 meds, because I had them before getting my thyroid treated. I had never had them before Hashis. Hope this helps, > > > > Without being TMI, I have had 'women' problems on and off for the last 5 years. The worst is the fishy smell right after my period. It goes away around ovulation.
