Guest guest
Well he just turned 20 months old and he absolutely adorable and he knows it lol. He is very social and loves everyone. He isn't walking yet but he gets around just fine. The doctor said they are not going to worry until he is 2. He pulls up on things, climbs on and off his rocking horse, and loves to climb on and off the couch. He says Hi, bye, ma, and da. We are trying for Mama and Dada. He has reddish blonde hair and amazing blue eyes. We have been told he has 60% ds cells. He gets sick a lot with upper respiratory infections and has asthma. Well that's all for now. Thank you! > > Hi Everyone > We have a new family joining us today! Guest guest
Yes he is allergic to milk. They have him on a formula still because of it instead of regular milk. I will ask his doc about the honey, thank you for that. I also added some photos, they are under Treston Futrell. -- In MosaicDS , Kristy Colvin wrote: > > Hi Missy > He sounds adorable and definitely one to keep you on your toes! > > When my son Tim was young, he had horrible asthma and respiratory problems. First of all, the congestion was because he was allergic to milk! (didn't find out till later) When I took him off milk, most of the congestion went away. As for the asthma.... it was bad and we were running to the hospital for breathing treatments about 3 or more times a week. (this was before you could easily get one for your home) I began giving Tim a teaspoon of local honey every morning. Because it was local honey it built up his immune system to the pollen in our area that he was allergic to. Within about 3 months of me giving him this every day, he went from having severe, very scary, asthma attacks several times a week, to having none at all! > > There is a certain age that you can not yet eat honey and I am not sure if at 20 months it is safe or not. (you may have to wait till he is 2) But, it is definitely worth a try! It worked miracles for us! > > Welcome! > Kristy > > > missyfutrell wrote: > > Well he just turned 20 months old and he absolutely adorable and he > knows it lol. Guest guest
Local honey is a help for allergies, BUT NEVER give raw honey or other honey to a child under age TWO. (not one). Sorry, I wanted to make sure that no one did this at age One. (very dangerous)Some babies havean immature digestive system even past one year. Here is a clip I copied from the Internet: Raw Honey – Safe for pregnant women The primary concern about raw honey is Botulinin spores which are found throughout nature: in soil, in dust, and on the unwashed surfaces of unpeeled fruits and vegetables. Acid will inhibit the spores from growing and producing the botulism toxin. A baby's immature digestive system is not yet acidic enough to inhibit the toxin from being produced, whereas the digestive system of an older child or adults is. In other words, the baby's digestive tract provides a nice warm, air-free, low-acid environment where botulinum spores just love to grow. When it grows it will produce the toxin. The toxin produced by the spore is the danger. Therefore, a pregnant mom can safely eat honey. Her digestive tract is acidic, and will prevent botulinum spores from growing -- no toxin will be produced. There is no danger to the fetus from the mom-to-be eating raw honey or honey-containing foods.* *reference: Sue Gilbert, MS Honey is a known source of bacterial spores that produce Clostridium botulinum bacteria. These bacteria are typically harmless to older children and adults. But when ingested by an infant, these bacteria make a toxin that can cause infant botulism. It's unclear why this occurs in infants and not in older children or adults. Infant botulism affects a baby's nervous system and can result in death. Signs and symptoms of infant botulism include: Persistent constipation Floppy arms, legs and neck Weak cry due to muscle weakness Weak sucking and poor feeding Tired all the time (lethargy) Botulism spores may also be found in undercooked food, corn syrup and even maple syrup. For this reason, feeding an infant any of these foods is risky as well. Here is another: (follow the link and read 1/3 of the way down...) Baby " s and Honey [Archive] - Beesource Beekeeping ForumsJun 5, 2005 ... I have seen warnings on honey to wait till up to two years to give them to .... directly to environmental sources of C. botulinum spores, ... www.beesource.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-206768.html You may find a lot of sources that say " One " , but be on the safe side and wait until TWO. Besides, many children with DS/MDS have immatue digestive systems and you would not want to take a chance, would you? SUSan > > > > Hi Everyone > > We have a new family joining us today! Guest guest
Some doctor told my mother that all allergies were acquired; I guess I cannot argue that one, as my kids " acquired " some of them from me/my genes when inutero...LOL...allergies can be inherited and I recommend everyone having a complete allergy test done at the doctor's office. We do the vicks also (if needed) and head of bed elevation is great. The single most important thing is HANDWASHING (almost like obsessive compulsively...LOL).Handwashing prevents the spread of germs; we carry that germ gel with us everywhere we go. Although it does not help the airborn stuff when someone sneezes on you. We take vitamins as well. And when one of us gets sick, even with a cold, we employ the lysol spray on everything. My grandmother recommends the old WWII remedy: drink a half of cup (nondairy) liquid every 1/2 hour (for an adult)....less for a child....to flush out the germs(warning you will be headed to the toilet frequently.) Avoid dairy as that tickens mucous secretions. (OK, I am done with the free nurse advice tonight...;0))) > > > > Hi Everyone > > We have a new family joining us today! Guest guest
She must have it confused with the fact that under 6 months or age 1 (I think it is at least one) that they cannot get strep because they are not developed enough. (throat wise) So, if you get strep, do not worry about your baby...I " know " firsthand that allergies can be inherited; there is a genetic predisposition to certain allergens. > > > > Hi Everyone > > We have a new family joining us today!
