Guest guest
My 3yo has been on about .75mg of Melatonin for about 5 days. It is VERY potent to her. Since she started talking it, she wakes up in a great mood and seems VERY alert (more so than before) and then as the morning goes on, she starts to get REALLY cranky. WAY earlier than when she would normally nap. Also, she feels a bit warm and clammy off and on through out the day. Not a fever, just... I don't know.. it's weird.. The DAN! doc said it was probably her reaction to the mild detox effect melatonin has. It's like she wants to be in a good mood, but is bothered... since she is non-verbal, I don't know how to figure out what's going on? So, those of you who do melatonin, did you see any kind of initial reaction? At night, it is a miracle- once 2 hour screaming fits are 30 minutes of cuddle and peaceful sleep- BUT if this is a bad sign, well, obviously time to stop.. Ideas? Guest guest
If this were happening here, I would try giving a little less (maybe .5 mg) to see if the effects decrease the next day. To be honest tho, I haven't heard anyone mention side effects from melatonin before. If her behavior is not "intolerable" to you, I would probably continue using the melatonin and watch to see if these side effects diminish over time. Also, I have read posts where others say the melatonin becomes less effective after you use it for a while. Maybe you might want to consider using it every other day. Just my thoughts.
