But I'm apparently atypical...diagnosed type 1 at age 60, now 62 almost 63. I was never really overweight -- I'm 5-8 " and at diagnosis I was about 140...low-carbing got me down to 117 and have to struggle to keep my weight up. For me, what works to keep my weight up despite low carbing , is about 30 grams of nuts with lunch and dinner every day and largeer than normal portions of meat, chicken o fish. . I also use H insulin matched to carbs at meals, no meds, and U for basal at noon and 10 p.m. Not huge amounts -- right now 6-1/2 U at noon, 5-1/2 U at night. When I eat at home H dose usually runs anywhere from 4 to 10 units depending on what I eat. When I eat out it's usually more (because I indulge). I also exercise daily, gym 3x a week, 45-minute neighborhood walk 4x a week. Vicki Low carbing really makes my weight go down, which I can't afford

Within the last three months I dropped my Glucophage so there's been a big adjustment to make and I'm just getting it right finally. It's taken a lot of tweaking. I expect my next A1C -- to be good. I hope! Vicki
