Guest guest
I came across this today while researching something else. It reminded me why there can never be a how-to book that describes the " hidden curriculum " of rules for every situation, in every possible context. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tacit_knowledge Enjoy (or not), ~CJ
Guest guest
Interesting. I had a philosophy minor at the University of Minnesota and this came up in our ethics discussions more than a few times. That was in the period 1961-63. Polanyi was also heavily deferred to in the theoretical political science stuff of the day, my major. His idea of tacit knowlege figured into the work of Goffman and other sociologists of the day, all of whom were looking for better explanations of organizational behavior and communication/information breakdowns. During my one transfer year as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, Blau also spent a good couple of class sessions on this concept. Funny how the stuff comes back... N.
