Guest guest
For those of you who are more conversant in these matters. Here is a link to a study at the Uof Saskatchewan that talks about estriol being the major form of estrogen in oral BHRT. It is from 2003. They state “In the liver, estradiol is converted to estrone and subsequently to estriol.” I thought that this only happens in pregnant women? That women don’t have a lot of it at any other time because it is manufactured by the placenta. This study talks about estriol and estradiol being antagonists. http://www.usask.ca/pharmacy-nutrition/services/read.php?id=11 What is confusing me is the variety of contradictory information in conventional sources on hormones, not just BHT, but about them in general. Guest guest
Karima, You are not alone. The more I learn on hormones, vitamins, general healthcare, etc., the more I realize how much I don't know. I completely agree with you. The reading out there is very contradictory, from my view point (a lay person's). I'm learning that in this area of healthcare, it is still very theory based and there are no black and white solutions. It's important to read, but equally important to look at the reason for the study (typically money). I'm learning that we need to be an equal and accountable partner in our own healthcare and our providers need to accept that or we'll take our business else where. I'm learning that even in these cutting edge approaches to hormone balancing, many of them are " theory " and still not proven. And as little as I know about estriol (I have no opinion on its effectiveness), I'd love to take every one of the lobbyist for the ban on estriol over my knee and paddle their behind's until they said " uncle. " Because in the end, its our bodies, and its completely offensive to have our healthcare dictated in this way when there are millions of drugs acceptable for sale on the market that come with severe warning labels of how bad they are for your health. The contradiction in this is unacceptable. If the FDA thinks estriol is so bad, let them put a warning label on it and leave it at that. My prediction is that once the FDA someday accepts bioidentical hormones as safe HRT (ok maybe not in my lifetime), that the smoking lawsuits we saw in the 80's and 90's will pale in comparison to the lawsuits against big pharma for the problems caused by sythetic hormones...because afterall, big pharma drugs are monitored by the FDA, who supposedly are trying to keep us from harming ourselves (LOL). -- In rhythmicliving , Karima Pijanka wrote: > > For those of you who are more conversant in these matters.
