Guest guest
Hi all, I hope this email finds you all doing as best as you can. I had my TC surgery on August 21. We stayed in the hospital, was released and things looked well enough to go a head and make the drive back home from Denver to New Mexico. I had a blown up air mattress , many pillows and slept in the back seat very softly. However, right before we left for our trip home I had a drip come from my bandage. We made the call, and I had caught it on my night gown, so the nurse basically told us butterfly stitch it up and you should be good but watch it. We left, made the 6 and a half hour drive home. That night when we got home there was some swelling but not bad. next day it was leaking, just a few drops. Nurse had my DH bandage it up and put me on flat bed rest until it had healed. two days later my head was blasting and we were heading to Denver at 9:00 pm for a CSF leak. We made it at 5:00am went to the hospital. Because I was so thin, there was nothing to do a revision so to speak so they had to redo the whole surgery. They put in a lumbar Drain for days and now I am still in Denver until the 24th (hopefully not longer) for an infection. I had to have a PICCU put in and have to infuse 3 bags of Mega doses of antibiotics (merrem and vancomyicin) every 8 hours. It has been such a long road. I share this with you because you need to know that you do not play around with your brains or spinal cords, if you think there is a leak ( you do not even have to have a temp) you call the nurse, you persist, dont play around. If you are in a different city, stay at least two to four days before making that trip home. Do not be afraid to call the nurse and " bug " them. This is your body and its the only one you get. Dont take chances....please. I have not seen my children or my home, family or friends. Our finances have been hard because my hubby has had to stay somewhere and no we have to live at an Extended Stay for the next 14 days. I pray that you all are doing great and if you ever have questions or just want to talk about your struggles I am here for you too. These groups are awesome too.
