Guest guest
Hi everyone! Some news I wanted to share. We have always fought for Patty to have an appropriate education for her. Every year we have had to fight to keep her out of a contained class. This year there has been one teacher who never showed up for any meetings and even spoke about his belief of Patty's lack of intellectual abilities. He got reprimanded for this statement. Anyway, we got Patty's progress report. She is doing fine in her classes, mostly C's except for this one where she is currently failing. We were not notified of this problem. When we read this we called to talk to him. His only response on our answering machine was he could not meet on fridays but would get back to us. He never did. I had a feeling he was going to " prove " his statement. If Patty failed he would say " see, told you so, it was too hard for her. " The funny thing is our next door neighbor is the tutor for that subject. When the next test came up we had my neighbor study with her here at home for about 25 minutes. That's all!!! She did nothing different at home except for my neighbors assistance in discussing what the terms meant. She took the test yesterday. Guess what, she got a B!!!!! Patty said, " Hey Mom, when he graded my test and told me I got a B he seemed mad. " Well, no kidding. She just proved him wrong!!!! Yet again, there is a person who doesn't believe in Patty and yet again though she suffered she did what was told she couldn't. Maybe if this guy attended the meetings and understood her disabilities he would have had more compassion, understanding, and teaching ability. AND it just goes to show that with the appropriate techniques she can do things. She is no genius, and struggles in school to keep up. She has to work twice as hard as otherst sometimes. But she always has to prove she is not as limited as they think she is. I am so proud of her. Bonnie
