Let me try to symplify... we just bought this house in April of this

year and I instantly noticed a stuffiness that I assumed would air out

after some time, and I did notice that my sinuses would close up on me

and I experienced some dizziness which I assumed was because I was

pregnant at the time. Then we got the swamp cooler working which was

blowing in fresh air and the stuffiness wasn't so bad as long as it

was running.

Well, we just invested in central heating and air and the air quality

has gone down significantly; not only does it have an unpleasant oder,

it also leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, so we haven't been using

that until we can hopefully figure out why the air is so bad coming

out of it. We do have a crawl space and the air down there smells

horrific. I think the air might be seeping in through the subfloor or

something because my husband has looked in the attic and in the crawl

space and inside the house and cant find any mold or signs of it. I'm

doing some air samples right now, though from what I've read, they can

be pretty inconclusive.

Each room in the house has a slightly different smell to it and the

bedrooms & the master bath seem to effect me worse so I've been

sleeping in the living room which my husband insists is because I dont

love him anymore. He thinks I'm making all my symptoms up because

he's " just fine " though he's had the sniffles more often and been

coughing and sneezing especially in the mornings and he's not in the

house nearly as much as I am and he smokes so much that he wouldn't be

able to tell if thats whats causing it or the house, plus he's in

denial, since this is the first house we've ever bought, he doesn't

want there to be anything wrong with it. We have a 3 month old who is

stuffy all the time and coughs and sneezes occasionally.

I've gone to a couple of doctors, but they either don't really listen

to me when I try to tell them my house is the problem and just try to

treat the symptoms or they tell me there's nothing they can do.

Well, my symptoms vary in their intensity and haven't been quite as

bad since we quit using the ac/heater but when I walk into the house

within 30 minutes I have a pressure headache, usually accompanied with

dizziness or fuzziness and irritability, my sinuses feel really dry

and I have sticky drainage in the back of my throat (which is what my

daughter sounds like she has, too) and occasionally lung pressure. If

I go in the bedrooms my symptoms get worse fast.

But my husband thinks I'm making all of this up because I don't want

to live here anymore which is what I told him after the house started

making me sick.

He's talking about divorce because I'm crazy, he just wants his normal

life back, which is all I want more than anything too, but he doesn't

believe me. He thinks I am just doing this because I'm crazy. He's a

good dad and normally a really great guy but I don't know what to do

to get him to believe just how miserable the house makes me feel. It

makes everything to do with the house miserable for me too, he gets

mad at me because I wont decorate.

I've tried to explain how I feel to him and I thought he understood,

but then when I talk about it again, he tells me he thought I was done

being crazy!

If anyone has any advise on tests that work good to check whats in the

air, or anything I can do to prove to my husband that I really am

miserable and its because the house is making me sick, not because I

don't like the house, please, please help me out here!
