Guest guest
I am hearing that NDT is not good for us with Hashi's because of how, since it is natural pig thyroid, that when the TPO & thyroglobulin break down, that antibodies will attack the medication thinking it is our own thyroid gland tissue. I'm concerned because I just started taking NP Thyroid (NPT) by Acella after having a bad experience with compounded T4/T3, apparently I cannot tolerate any form of cellulose in combo with thyroid hormone. I've been down the Armour & Naturethroid paths too & when they raised cellulose/decreased dextrose, my hypo symptoms returned. My main focus now is to reduce antibodies & inflammation. Have any of you with Hashi's successfully used NDT and if so, how has it affected your TPO antibody levels? A lot of what I have researched says it's a problem when the med is swallowed & the break down of TPO & thyroglobulin & absorbed in the small intestine, but NPT is sublingual, so if any of you that have used Armour sublingually have had success or failure with NDT, please share. I'd rather stop this craziness now rather than later....I'm already trying to excrete iodine from my system as it is....it jumped to 441 from 31 after my doctor insisted I take it in small doses...the result has been awful. TSH tripled, & TPO Ab's doubled after they were at their lowest level in years as the result of being gluten free for over a month. I am very close to consulting with Dr. Haskell via Skype~ Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi , The bottom line is that thyroid synthetic drugs don't work for some of us while natural desiccated thyroid doesn't work for others. The same can be said about iodine/iodide. The thyroid replacement med you chose should be the one(s) that works for you individually. IMHO, Dr Haskell's explanation of how the thyroid gland causes autoimmunity is based on a narrow interpretation of " handpicked " research studies that were clearly taken completely out of context. Dr Haskell's views on Hashimoto's is the opposite of proven medical research, he says a malfunctioning thyroid gland causes Hashimoto's. Actually, the disease is well underway by the time thyroid hormone production declines and thyroid inflammation is present. For whatever reason, Dr. Haskell obviously ignores nearly a hundred years of research, which proves that Hashis is an autoimmune disease (not a `condition' as he refers to it) that come first then inflammation of the thyroid gland occurs, not the other way around. ALL autoimmune conditions are complex and caused my multiple factors. Putting all the above aside, Dr. Haskell shows what can be tried to get our antibodies back to somewhat normal levels. His book/videos also helps with what diet and lifestyle changes that need to be made if we want to somewhat heal and manage our Hashis. But, this is nothing new, most, if not all, alternative practitioners do this along with certain conventional trained MDs. Just because the conventional medicine community has not been effective in treating Hashis does not mean that Dr Haskell can simply reclassify Hashis from a disease to a condition. I don't believe Dr Haskell has found a new solution - again, some doctors are already using treatments to modulate the immune system to help their Hashi patients. I do use Dr Haskell's ideas that I know are logical and overlook the rest. ISTM, if Dr. Haskell has really unlocked the mystery to treating Hashimoto's as he claims no one else yet has, then he would have his results peer-reviewed and published in a reputable scientific journal. He just proves that anyone can write and publish a book. Sorry to hear you had a bad time with iodine. A big mistake people make is that iodine/iodide must be taken with ALL complementing supplements to work efficiently. I have been using natural desiccated thyroid for about ten years now. I also use Iodoral every day, too. My antiTPOabs have reduced to 87 as of last year from a whopping 20,000 plus. I do take my Erfa Thyroid sublingually so I can eat food or take vitamins at the same time. I do have to watch when I take my extra T3 though. Good luck, ~Bj -- In Thyroiditis , " holisticrn2 " wrote: > > I am hearing that NDT is not good for us with Hashi's because of how, since it is natural pig thyroid, that when the TPO & thyroglobulin break down, that antibodies will attack the medication thinking it is our own thyroid gland tissue.
