Guest guest
Hi Amy--I don't have the answers you're looking for, really. But I am wondering IF molds and other bacteria can live in brine....or " salt water. " I honestly don't know. Yes, people do swim in the ocean, but can the fungi grow there as well? I'd like to hear some answers on that too....from someone more knowledgable than me! And as far as swimming in pools, remember that water is treated with chlorine, so that should be pretty safe, too. I just know, as a former nurse, that you shouldn't put ANYTHING in your ears! We used to have patients with severe ear infections and/or mastoiditis, which CAN result in meningitis....which can be fatal. WHY take the chance? Answers, anybody? if nothing should go in the ears, then how to address mold and infectiosn in there already? thanks, amy
Guest guest
Well, I meant if you are trying to treat mold illness, some systemic thing through the ears. I think there is no reach from there to anything internal and just trying something to see if it works by some chance, might do harm to an organ that generally not much goes wrong with unless you harm it yourself. I've only had one ear problem and I caused it myself. Then I read up on caring for the ear to see what was recommended and read that just washing the outside of ear is all you should do. Although I generally don't refer to traditional doctors much, I think the ear is so " unmysterious " , that for ear problems probably safest thing is to go to ear doctor or just GP or even over the counter ear cleaning products, etc. The ear I think is pretty much made to take salt water okay. Your sinuses too, salt water can help those. The alkalinity of salt water makes it a mild anti-infective. I've heard of ear infections from pool water but usually if you drain it out right away after getting out of pool, it shouldn't cause much of a problem. > > People swim in salt water all the time, isnt that safe? >
Guest guest
Personally I think we evolved from sea life so our bodies are not harmed by sea water generally. I've heard that some rashes, including poison ivy, benefit from an ocean swim and drying off in the sun afterwards. If you feel you benefited from salt water in the ear, I see nothing wrong with that. Make sure you get the water out real well and don't leave the inner ear damp. > > > People swim in salt water all the time, isnt that safe? >
Guest guest
there are 2 thing a majigs in the inner ear, cant remember names off hand thatare like brain barriors but you can get infections to the brain through the ear. these barriors can become damaged by brain swelling that forces fluid out yor ears. but I dont know if you can get a infection to the brain from the ears without those barriors forst being damaged. dont recall what I read on that now. may be something in the archives or try looking up info. on mariners ear,or something along those lines. > if nothing should go in the ears, then > how to address mold and infectiosn in there already? > > thanks, amy >
Guest guest
Your right Vickie and thanks for correcting me. I didn't mean to say that an infection in ear would just stop there and not go any further. An infection or damage to ear would creat lesions through which pathogens could enter bloodstream right in critical cranial area. What I meant to say is I don't believe the ear (healthy intact ear) is an effective vehicale through which to get a treatment to the whole body, like say the sinuses are. Inhalation therapy is becoming very popular, but I'm way out of my realm of expertise here so I bow to the nurse in the group. >> > I think there is no reach from there to > anything internal and just trying something to see if it works by some > chance, might do harm to an organ that generally not much goes wrong > with unless you harm it yourself. >
Guest guest
I use to live in Florida and swam in the ocean all of the time. I have always been an allergic sort of person, even before mold exposure. I can honestly say I was at peak health when I lived in S Florida and had fewer allergies. That salty air and water did me all the good in the world! I wish I still lived there for that reason. South Carolina does not agree with my health at all. > > > > > People swim in salt water all the time, isnt that safe? > > >
Guest guest
Sounds nice. Wish I could get there. I used to live in Newport Beach, CA for awhile but job moved me. --- In , " jackiebreeze " <jackiebreeze@...> wrote: > > I use to live in Florida and swam in the ocean all of the time.
