Guest guest
Wow, doesnt sound like you got a very good inspection which would lead me to believe your problem may be worse than you were told. The air sample is what you really need to know how bad it is circulating through the air, But.... Best rule of thumb is to leave/destroy, everything especially anything porous cloth, wood, etc. I would direct you to our archives and do a search on this and you will find how many of us, and how difficult it is to have to go through this is. Especially when you are renting as I was. Cross contamination is what you do not want to have to go through because it follows you and is a never ending fight. Your belongings will become the least of expences thhis way and this is without discussing anything medical. This is the best advice I can give you based on what you have told me thus far. Since you are talking about a black powdery substance I will put my bet that you have an airborn issue as well. If you have any more specific questions or comments please ask. Best of luck and document EVERYTHING since you are in a rental. Chris... From: linz22112 <linz22112@...> Subject: [] Are my belonging safe? Date: Wednesday, December 17, 2008, 2:12 PM We have found many areas of mold in the home we rent. Because it is cold out, and snow, they were unable to do a " accurate " air sample test. Guest guest
Don't take anything you can't wash thoroughly with hot water and ammonia. No stuffed things or things dry cleaned only. If building is very moldy, electronics can have mold or mycotoxins in them...people here correct me if I am wrong. Doesn't air flow in and out of electronics to cool them? > > We have found many areas of mold in the home we rent. Guest guest
Computers especially. I will remind you I have a picture of the inside om my monitor in the pictures. Also Ammonia will not help. Vinigar is about the best but I still dont recomend trying to wash anything. As I always do I will not so much recomend but sugest going to Radio shack and getting one of those 10-15 dollar microscopes and check out the surfaces of a few things. This might " enlighten " you. Guest guest
What to wash it in probably depends more specifically on which toxin it is but isn't vinegar good to kill mold spores but ammonia good for washing out tricothecenes, or rather deactivate them? Many people will not take the chance though regarding washing. > > Computers especially. I will remind you I have a picture of the inside om my monitor in the pictures. Also Ammonia will not help. (kidding, please dont try this at home) Either way I agree with the last statment and thats why. Its just not worth the risk. Guest guest
Important papers can be stored, if small amt, safe deposit box, if more, small commercial storage temporarily at least. --- In , " surellabaer " <surellabaer@...> wrote: >> Goes without saying that your books and paper objects from the > infected areas MUST be thrown out! Guest guest
How can I find someone in my area to do the air sample testing. I can only find place that come and do " repair " from mold damage.- I live in Barrington, IL , about 35 miles north of Chicago. I also never even thought about " paper " items being contamintaed. I just don't know what to do, or where to turn. My dog has also been very sick :-( What worries me also is, there is mold in almost everyroom in the home (tthat we rent) in one form or another. thank you again for any help anyone can provide. -- In , " barb1283 " <barb1283@...> wrote: > > Important papers can be stored, if small amt, safe deposit box, if > more, small commercial storage temporarily at least. > > > >> Goes without saying that your books and paper objects from the > > infected areas MUST be thrown out! >
Guest guest
Describe air tests you have had. Do you have forced air system? --- In , " linz22112 " <linz22112@...> wrote: > > How can I find someone in my area to do the air sample testing. Guest guest
I did not have air sample tests done yet...only tape and swab. Yes, we have forced air system. It is that black powder mold that has me most conerned. thank you for your help > > > > How can I find someone in my area to do the air sample testing. Guest guest
That is due to the lack of experts on the issue. Everybody thinks they can fix it but in the end few fix it as it should be and in a rental situation I dont believe it will ever be fixed in a way that is acceptiable or healthy. I also ran into this problem only it was shotty work he did to the home after I left and then of course he rented it out again. This is when Carl tested my home so he can attest to the kind of work that gets done and how much it helps.... The only thing I can suggest is sending an email to Carl or Mays or maybe they will catch this and be able to tell you how to find someone or give you some further advice on this as I dont have that ability to help you. I will talk to my vet and try to get some answers for you about the anti fungals we ended up useing that helped my female so much. It was to late for the male. She still has breathing issues but is doing better though. There are pills and shampoos to use and when you leave is a great time to shampoo the pet as to not carry this off with the pet . My best suggestion for papers and documents etc. get alot of big zip lock bags and new paper assuming you have a printer. Make copies and bag bolth. Store the contaminated ones sealed in the bags, take the semi clean ones to kinkos or somewhere and make fresh copies of those and destroy the coopies you made. Seems like a lot of work but it is a way to keep important things. You may even want to put a few samples in mason jars and store those of some of the bad places or stuff in the house if you plan on going to court to be tested and for evidence later although be masked, covered and where rubber gloves. Do this as you leave. Make sure you have given the landlord certified copies of what the problem is, why you need to leave. Wethere you plan on legal action or not you need to feel obligated to make sure he knows of the problem. He will then be aware of the issue. Hope that helps As far as bleach goes. There is so much water in bleach It really does not kill anything. Some molds feed on it. I had a special set of fold up pliers I wanted to keep. I was told surfaces like that could be cleaned and did everthing suggested (this was way before I new of this group) the last thing I did was let them soke in a glass pan full of straight bleach. A few days later there was a big fuzzy ball growing off of my plyers on the bottom of the pan...... Enough said.... I had to get rid of thousands of dollars in tools etc. Based on my experience I trust nothing, the risk is to great and the cost was my health. In fact HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ME.... Three years ago today was the day I walked out the doors naked. Put new clothing on and came back to my parents home. I am still here trying to heal, I have many medical complications, my parents are nearly bankrupt and all sources of help have been dried up but I wouldnt do it any other way... My point.... TAKE NO CHANCES I also never even thought about " paper " items being contamintaed. I just don't know what to do, or where to turn.
Guest guest
Is the black powder on sheetrock? It sounds like it very well could be dried stackybotrys. If so, my god, dont touch it it will disperse like gas and you will inhale it. This will couse your worst health problems. I dont want to scare you, buttt. I dont want you to be harmed either.
