Holiday Fund: Mold grows into financial woes for family of three

By Phelps

correspondent

Cassandra and her two children needed to find a place to live as

fast as possible because mold in their apartment was making them

very sick.

She found a new apartment, but she had to come up with quite a bit

of money first. The last month's rent and the security deposit along

with moving expenses drained her savings and made her budget for

food and gifts very tight this holiday season.

The Salvation Army stepped in to help. Cassandra's children are

having fewer health problems, and while she catches up on bills, the

organization is providing food and holiday gifts.

Many people need help this year: those out of work, parents who are

ill or have a sick child, or single parents struggling to pay rent,

utilities and other necessities.

Hardships and making ends meet may mean no money for gifts or a

holiday meal.

The Salvation Army and the Gloucester Daily Times Holiday Fund work

together to help those who need a little something extra to get

their lives going again, especially around the holidays when

families gather. Donations go a long way to help neighbors get going

again.
