Guest guest
Greetings, I am putting on my very brave cap and will be traveling abroad for the first time since getting ill from mold in 2005. I'm not letting this mold illness crap hold me back any longer. This will be a trip to Europe and I'll be part of an academic tour of German universities. The schedule is rather demanding, but I'll do my best considering my limitations. I need advice on how to handle a long flight. I will certainly contact the airline to explain my conditions (MCS is the primary concern), but I wonder if anyone can advise about masks/oxygen for travel and provide examples of your experiences traveling since MCS and mold. Thank you in advance for sharing your wisdom. Keep strong friends... Missy
Guest guest
I feel the same way and traveled to London after getting sick It was a college trip with my daughter that I would never have the chance to do again. I was nervous but had no problems. I took a mask with me and fortunately no one near me had perfume/cologne on or I don't know what I would have done. I was fine in the hotel and had a wonderful 10 days seeing London. Check out this website _http://www.icanbreathe.com/_ (http://www.icanbreathe.com/) for some nice masks. Good luck and I hope you have a good time. Sue I am putting on my very brave cap and will be traveling abroad for the first time since getting ill from mold in 2005. Guest guest
>I also find myself flying twice a year from New York to San Diego and am always nervous before the flight. I take my face mask AND my eye mask and I put eye drops in my eyes every hour or so to minimize discomfort. I take a eye mask for sleeping too when I don;t want to look like a complete crazy-I just keep my eyes closed for the majority of the flight and that helps. I also drink only water and have taken anti-histamines because it seems to minimize the immediate problem of too much dust for me. I drink a St. 's Wort tea before the flight because it calms me down and alot of my MCS flare-ups these days come from anxiety. So far flying has been tough but manageable-you know its going to end so that makes it bearable. I also have been lucky and there hasn't been any crazy perfume ladies next to me. It's funny but I get more problems from the rent a car I get than the plane ride! So go and ENJOY! > Greetings, > I am putting on my very brave cap and will be traveling abroad for the first time since getting ill from mold in 2005. Guest guest
I hope you have a nice trip and can enjoy yourself. I know with our illness how nervous we become and others don't understand. However, I think more and more are becoming aware of MCS. It's very difficult to go out into the world with all the fragrances. I have had to step out of line in a store because of perfume or smoke odors on people around me. It isn't easy but I do the best I can and I carry a mask with me at all times! Sue Thank you Sue! Very helpful. The airline also said i could carry oxygen with a dr note dated within 10 days from departure. I hope not to need it! **************Worried about job security?
