Guest guest
Hi all. I have this problem status post PFD/Fusion @ TCI December 11, 2007. I am in a Brain Injury Rehab Program at the Idaho Elks Rehab Hospital and my Speech Therapist sent me for a swallow evaluation. For me, they said that I had Acid Reflux/GERD and slow motility in my esophagus that was making it hard to swallow foods and fluids. It's not only frustrating, but scary. I tried to take a new Omega Vitamin and began choking in front of my 12-year-old daughter and husband. Thankfully, my husband was able to retrieve it quickly with the Heimlich maneuver. I don't take those pills anymore. I have to be very careful eating and drinking. I can't talk and eat or drink at the same time. I also am supposed to drink for every 2 bites I eat. I am being sent to an ENT and a GI doc to evaluate my throat further for scars, nodules, or improper muscle movement. Ugh!! I don't know if this is common or not. But, if you struggle with it, be very careful eating and drinking and see a specialist to rule out other problems.
