Central vacuumn cleaners that exhaust to the outdoors are best. But

they are expensive. But the filter they use is irrelevant, since they

exhaust outdoors.

They are installed somewhere in the basement of a house and the

exhaust is typically located on an exterior wall far from windows as

possible.

Ive also had good luck at times with a (cheap) sealed wet-dry vac

using an aftermarket (and frequently water cleaned)

HEPA Clean Stream filter. (made of Gore-Tex)

You can hose the filter off. (Don't use soap or it ruins it.)

They even work for drywall dust, etc. Its great.

We also have a HEPA-filtered upright vac but I have found that I need

to have the windows open when i use it.

We always change bags, clean filter, etc, outside and with the wet dry

vac, being able to hose it off is a big advantage.

So Live which do you have less reaction to, the dry/wet vac with hepa

filter you can wash off or the upright hepa?? Is there a reason why a

person would need to have both? Thanks, Barb

I have a Dyson and like it very much. I take the canister outside and empty

it into a plastic bag then tie it up and throw it away.

Sue

I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I was just wanting to get

some opinions on vacuums from others who are as sensitie to stuff as I

am. Just dust alone I showed up extremely allergic to in my recent

blood test.

I have an older model, '99 I think, Kirby vacuum and it stinks and

stirs up the air. It is supposed to be a really good vacuum, but I have

to take it outside to change the bag, too because so much dust gets out.

Soo, any opinions on what is the most reasonably priced good working

vacuum out there?

Beth, I have a Kirby also and after I vaccumed my carpet (now gone), it

used to stink in house. However I got down on hands and knees and

stuck my nose in carpet and it had an odor, so I got rid of carpet.

There is equally old carpet upstairs but made of different fiber and I

did same thing and it didn't smell so try same test. I haven't used my

Kirby upstairs but I think I will and see if air smells afterwards so I

know for sure but Kirby suction was so strong pulling fibers up and

stirred air alot and put carpet fiber odor into air. I have same

experience. My carpet was about 40 years old though, estimated age.

It was in house when I got it. However there was no odor in 'air' in

rooms carpet was in when not vacuuming them. There was only odor when

I vaccummed them.
