Guest guest
Your conversation brought back memories of how spider plants remove some of the formaldehyde from the air. A book came out about 12 years ago by a retired NASA engineer (Wolverton) about which indoor plants can improve indoor air quality. Google " NASA plants IAQ " and a bunch of links will come up. The first link is excellent. http://www.cleanairgardening.com/houseplants.html It identifies the NASA personnel, lists 15 plants and at the end has links to PDFs of NASA documents. An Amazon search found the book I was thinking of: " How to Grow Fresh Air: 50 House Plants that Purify Your Home or Office " by B. C. Wolverton, 1997. Note, however, that the damp soil can sometimes - not always - grow mold and bacteria. Mold amplification can be easily controlled by spraying a dilute solution of NutriBiotic (grapefruit seed extract) a couple of times a month. Guest guest
The nice thing about ivy is you can grow it in the house without SOIL, just in a glass of water, so you wouldn't have the moldy soil inside. Very interesting article. Thanks. I wonder how much you would need for a 2k sq ft house! It would probably need to be too much but it reminds me that I could have a houseplant that doesn't require soil. Just stick the roots in a vase of water. >> > The House Plant Remedy > > > According to the latest research, English ivy may help fight allergies > by removing allergens (including mold spores) from the air. Guest guest
I found this on how to grow ivy in water, but my aunt used to just stick some ivy she cut out of her yard in a vase and it lasted and lasted, but this says: " How to grow ivy in water " http://www.ehow.com/how_4554092_grow-ivy-water.html > > The nice thing about ivy is you can grow it in the house without SOIL, > just in a glass of water
