Guest guest
This post is to again but if anyone has any experience with Pro-tect floor covering or suggestions on covering damaged floor, please jump in please. Jeff, Going to take your advice to separate first floor from basement but need to do it in temporary fashion until I can get it done permanently. There is still some water damage foundation work needed and a dirty sump pump that needs replacement with sealed one and in recent damp weather basement smelled moldy, so going to take the leap at attempting this. Square footage of floor is about 800 square feet, or three rooms of old wood floor. Problem with basement air mixing with first floor have to do with fact that wood floor is made of planks with no subfloor, planks are not tight together. May have been when it was built and separated due to movements of house, but now one can see lights from basement through floor separations, SO considering that Pro-Tect floor covering you recommend. Can I use the `carpet protector' on wood floors and leave it down for about six months, or do you think one of the other ones would be better? Here are what they offer: http://www.pro-tect.com/vmchk/PRO-TECT-for-Surfaces.html The other thing I'm considering is to buy the type of vinyl flooring that can be put right over the top of floor without needing to be glued down, since the wood floor is damaged and may be too expensive for me to repair. That would be a more permanent solution if estimate of repairing wood floor that I will be getting is too high. Thanks again……barb
Guest guest
Hi Barb, I don't think the carpet protector would last if there is much traffic and I am not familiar with the properties of the other products. They could be fine but it may be simpler to just get some inexpensive vinyl (so long as you as OK with the offgassing). Just go with the least expensive, safest option.
