Our situation is just so interesting because there is no telling how long he would have gone without being diagnosed. My son has very minimal outward signs of this disorder and even some that are the opposite of what I've read so far. He has been having problems with his speech, but has recently had a few ear infections. Dr says that we will test hearing after he's been infection free for a month. I mention to him that my AFP test came back with a high chance for Down Syndrome with both children. I had an amnio done w/ my daughter, but she was born prematurely so I decided not to do it with my son. I also noticed some odd behavior such as his eyes rolling and him sometimes seeming like he can't hear me. I also mentioned that he did have a certain look about him that made me suspicious. My Dr. looked at him and goes, " I would have never thought it by looking at him, but now that you've said something I see what you're talking about. " Long story long, he was tested and a little over 3 weeks later, here we are. Diagnosed with Mosaic Downs Syndrome. In light of everything I am pleased. He is diagnosed early, I have the means to get him the help that he needs, and he is so 'high functioning' that most will find it hard to believe that he has this disorder. It is my hope that through the sharing of our story others will realize that it is not always obvious and this may lead to testing that may otherwise not have been sought. I really don't feel like 'Why me?', but more like, 'Why not me?!'.
