Guest guest
Hope all had a Merry Christmas and wish everyone a Happy, Healthier New Year. We are going to buy a new front room set and need input on what material would be best. Since seeing Dr. Shoemaker and starting treatment with CSM feeling better but now noticing chemicals are affecting me, probably was before but didn't realize it. We are looking at a leather set and another one that is polyester and rayon. My son said that mold wouldn't grow on polyester as it is inorganic any info and recommendations would be appreciated. Our house tested good on Ermi but had just had the floors refinished and they want me to retest in Feb. my husband doesn't want to buy something that could get cross contaminated easily if there would be a problem. thanks Lee
Guest guest
I'm not sure about the mold question (from my experience, it basically grows on anything). I would love to replace my sofas but have the same questions. I think I would pick a sofa that has a removable cover that washes easily. This way I could keep it clean and mold free. My other concern is the offgassing of materials used in new sofas and other furniture. I heard that Ikea's stuff is relatively free of VOC's and i might try there first. If you are really chemically sensitive, as I am, I would be really cautious about the stuff you buy. All natural is always better but then all natural materials tend to mold easily too. It's a real catch-22, isn't it?
Guest guest
Yes it is a catch- 22, I did check into ikea in our area (Ohio) and the customer reviews were not very good. The one Dr. told me to start using Traders Joe's laundry detergent so that I would start unmasking and wow that is when I started really noticing how much chemical smells were affecting me. The first time we went out looking for furniture I was laid for three to four days afterwards, now I use the allergy block plus my portable oxygen and when I get home take a shower and do a nasal saline wash and that all has helped. Tomorrow I am going to call the lin Furniture company to ask them about the VOC's of their products, the sales person said that do something by hand with salt that makes the VOC's less. Never dreamt this would be such a project, thanks for the input Good Luck on your search for furniture. >
