Guest guest
Hi - Thank you for sharing your day with us. It sounds fabulous! Definitely a day to cherish. Also, thank you for sharing funny moments and things said. I have had a few laughs over them and enjoyed reading what was said. Thanks again! Hugs- Sandie Des Moines, IA -- A Fun Afternoon with Mumsie Thought I'd share my fun day with my mom yesterday... I left work early at 1 PM (don't you love to do that? always feel like you're doing something wrong, like ditching school) to go visit mom since an elderly clothing store was visiting the nursing home. * Mom & I went down to the Grande Room where they had racks of clothes and we had ourselves a little shopping spree. Mom gets confused when there are many people - the sales lady was talking with another buyer, and mom was answering all her questions as though they were directed to her. No problem... There were some great spring/summery outfits mom got: a peach coolot outfit, a sea green plaid coolot outfit, a solid black lacey coolot outfit, and a fancy beige outfit with a printed scarf. More knee high socks in lighter and breathable cotton (with mom always moving her legs around she needs the knee highs so she doesn't scrape up her legs on the dining room table). And a big, floppy sun hat with a blue and white ribbon to tie underneath her chin - so when gardening begins at the NH she'll be all set for the sun. As the sales lady called it, a Hepburn hat, similar to " On Golden Pond " . The store will deliver all these new items next week after getting mom's name on them. We left with mom's hat though and she wore it back up to her floor. When an aide in the elevator asked what mom's been up to she said that she's been on vacation. That's b/c I had just spoken with another worker who had just returned from vacation - but it was a funny comment while mom was wearing her big floppy hat. * Brought in a chocolate coissant for mom - and she enjoyed that treat - while making a huge mess. * I attended their daily music session. Everyday this group arrives with guitar and keyboard and smaller hand instruments (for the residents) and they get the entire floor singing and dancing. I think it's one of the highlights of the residents' day! They were doing a NYC theme - singing broadway tunes. It was quite fun. I got a little teary during Edelweiss from The Sound of Music - but the rest of the time it was fun. Another resident wanted to sit next to me and so I was able to connect with her too. * Couple of more funny moments in the dining room: One resident was talking with another. The other said " I don't know WHAT you're talking about. You don't know what you're talking about either. " ....AND....Mom was doing her leg thing at the table (moving her legs around) and she was lightly touching her tablemate's ankle - the tablemate said as she looked down " What a cute puppy dog. " (mom was wearing her bright pink and black striped socks, hardly looks like a dog). LOL * A real dog visited the NH too - so mom was able to visit with Sammy the dog. So, those were our highlights of the day. And it was great fun spending the day with mom. I stayed until after dinner (fishwich, fries, chicken noodle soup, peaches, and chocolate ice cream -- mom ate everything). She was pooped by then - when I was leaving, she was already falling asleep at the table. A great day with Mumsie!
