Guest guest
The ALA is raising funds (once again) by encouraging supporters to purchase gift certificates for people to use at golf courses. They call it giving the 'gift of health'. Please tell them you won't contribute unless they rethink the wisdom of inferring that golf is a healthy pastime or anything less than a considerable source of destruction to both health and the environment. You can reach their contact site from the ad page noted below. Barb Rubin ----------------------------- My letter to the ALA: Dear ALA, Once again, I must strenuously object to your extremely poor choice of partners for your fund raising efforts. The fact you speak of golf courses and 'health' in the same phrase in your site title, is truly an oxymoron. I am a severe asthmatic and cannot even drive past a golf course. In selecting among the few 'asthma friendly' rental apartments on the market today, one of the first things I do is conduct a satellite map search to ensure there are no nearby farms or golf courses. Employees and those who live on the fringes of these toxic amusement sites, are subject to serious illnesses including lung ailments. The very idea of bringing children to a country club setting where hazardous pesticides and herbicides (including some banned for residential uses), is contrary to the mission of the ALA. Please review this request for your supporters to spend money on an industry that is destructive to health and our environment. Most importantly, you must remove the inference made in this advertisement (http://www.lungusa.org/site/c.dvLUK9O0E/b.23657/k.69CE/Golf_Privilege_Cardreg.h\ tm?tr=y & auid=4335277 that golf and good health go hand in hand. When the PGA recommends golf courses shift to organic maintenance policies, I will definitely be first on line to make my contribution.
