Guest guest
Hi Joy, Thank you so much for your detailed input -- you really are a help to us neophytes! You said earlier that lots of abx treatment can lead to fungal & skin disorders. Are there any symptoms that alert you to the fact that you are beginning to have them? I just recently grew a sputum culture that says "SCANT growth of fungus". Would you treat for this even if says "scant"? Or would you just wait for symptoms to show up before treating? Do you take an inhaled bronchodilator and inhaled steroids? If so, can this lead to fungal infxns also? What do you do/take to prevent fungal infxns? I'm sorry to hear that you don't have much abx choice left and I understand your anxiety. My sensitivity to the strep pneumoniae revealed that it's resistant to erythromycin (zithromax) & Bactrim. I'm not exactly surprised since I've been (like you) taking erythromycin for its anti-inflammatory properties on a chronic basis now. Just curious, when you say abx resistance is caused more so by incomplete treatment -- how would you know when the treatment is complete? In other words, how many days (generally speaking) do you usually take abx for when you have an exacerbation? One of my doctors gave me a RX for 5 days of Levaquin while a prior doctor used to give me 10 days worth of abx. I'm now considering taking the abx for at least 10-14 days because what you said does make sense to me. I remember that you said previously that streaks of blood usually signal an infxn. You were right on the ball on that one since after my streaks of blood I did have an exacerbation. Do you know why this happens? Also, when you said infxn, aren't we always having low-grade infxns constantly (it's just that sometimes we get a higher-grade infxn/exacerbation)? By the way, I read on a website somewhere that technically speaking, SB FlorActiv is not a probiotic but rather helps the probiotic to work. So, I was wondering if you're taking SB FlorActiv with a probiotic or if you're just taking SB FlorActiv by itself? How are the Flutter and erythromycin working for you? I really do hope that they're helping you and that you're feeling well. Thanks again for all your thoughts, Cassie
