Guest guest
Hi Joy, Thanks so much for your response. It's such a dilemma -- not knowing whether you're undertreating (ie, ignoring symptoms that may later turn into something worse) or overtreating (ie, taking abx when not totally warranted)! Have you ever ignored your sputum color changes and then it turned into something much worse (ie, pneumonia, etc)? That's of course what I'm afraid of (since that's how I got this disease in the first place)! On the other hand, I don't want to get abx resistance. So, how do your doctors know what abx to give you if they don't make you take a sputum culture? And, if they keep giving you broad-spectrum abx every time you get an exacerbation, aren't you afraid that you may run out of abx to take? Also, do the abx they give you always work? If the antibiotic doesn't work, do they then switch you to another abx until something works? Wow, what a disease! Not sure now if knowing the results of my sputum culture will really help since it may or may not catch what's your true condition! So, the scant amount of fungus they found in my culture really may not mean a thing! Who's to know . . . By the way, how have you ever dx fungus if the sputum culture may be inaccurate? Anyway, thanks for lending an ear and for enlightening me through this crazy disease. Cassie
