Help with possible new rental questions

We're desperately seeking a safe rental and I have a few questions about a

place I saw:

The landlord was inside washing/drying a load of sheets in this disgusting

detergent that actually had " Renuzit " in it. It was toxic smelling. However,

it was apparently the first and only time he had used it (despite my telling

him I was chemically sensitive and not to do anything before I got there).

I've never had experience with that laundry product - since it seems to have

a deodorizer in it, is the washer/dryer permanently affected from this one

time? The walls in the kitchen?

Because of this, it was hard to tell if the house was ok for me, but it

seemed to feel/appear otherwise safe. Even the only two year old carpet didn't

seem to be offgassing (although I could have easily been masked).

Another however -- he mentioned that there was a fire 4 years ago over the

garage and family room, and that the insurance had a company come in, rip

everything out, put in new insulation, SPRAY KILLZ, and run dehumidifiers.

Although he swears (of course) there was no mold.

He said I could stay there tomorrow night to test everything, clean the

machines, etc. Again, we're desperate, and this has been the best out of a lot

of other places, but are these warning signs too huge? What's the deal with

Killz, too? Any experience? I don't want to stay overnight if it will only

make me sick, but I also don't want to risk losing a place I might be able to

make work.

Thanks

Jill
