Guest guest
I have some nice old pieces of silver from my mom and they are getting more and more tarnished because I cannot tolerate regular silver polish. I've tried baking soda and toothpaste-the toothpaste was pretty good but it doesn't get it shiny. I'm kind of resigned to bagging the stuff and putting it away. Does anyone have anything effective for cleaning silver? Thanks and have a great New Year!!! Surella

You would need some water in there too. When the tarnish is gone, rinse very very well, and dry with a soft cloth. If you need to get scratches out, then you could find some extremely fine sandpaper and try it- if there is any fine enough. There is polishing grit made of only aluminum oxide (a white powder) and getting a one micron size is what gives the mirror polish. I am not sure where you could find it in small amounts, though.
