Guest guest
I remember when my daughter would bite; ages 2-4 --- thankfully it wasn't a regular thing, but an issue nonetheless. For her it was related to speech language delay - not being able to say what she wanted to say -- and getting frustrated as the situation was still not changing regardless of her verbal efforts. The only other time she really took a bite of her adorable cousin's cheek. Later when she could articulate why she bit Frances it was because " when you love somebody so much you just want to take a bite out of them.... " She has since learned to show her love in a great hug and most importantly, with her words. To sum it all up --- think about communication Subject: Re: How do I stop my baby from biting? To: MosaicDS Date: Monday, November 24, 2008, 3:32 AM Hi My son Hunter is 13 months old and he has probably been biting from about 10 months as well. When he bites me I say " No Biting " in a firm voice and put him on the floor, agaist a blank wall, away from his toys for about a minute. Walk away. For the first couple of months he obviously didn't really know that he was in trouble and used to love hitting and playing against the wall, however I have noticed the last 2 times I've done this he is crying before I even get him to the wall and knows he's in trouble. When he first starting biting he was doing it at least once a day, and now he only does it once, maybe twice a week. And he HATES being in the naughty corner. At the start he didn't know what he was doing, he just had these new teeth and wanted to use them, but he understands now alot more. Sometimes now, he might bite my jumper and he looks up straight away with a cheeky smile because he knows he's bitten. If we are out at someone else's place and he does it, I do the same thing, except maybe instead of putting him against the wall, I place him on the floor somewhere and walk away. I would really recommend introducing something similar. Keep it simple (no biting), don't get into long conversations with him as to why he shouldn't bite, and remove yourself from the situation. Let me know how you go. Good luck.
