Guest guest
Cymbalta is indeed in pharmacies because I picked up my first prescription two days ago. I'm very med intolerant and the only side effect is sleepiness - but you take it before bed so that's OK. It wil take a while for it to have an effect on my depression. But after a week, it's already working on my fibro! I've had very few cramps and no spasms since I began taking it. My pain level is down. I can concentrate better. So since my Dr. started me on the lowest dose, I'm calling to ask him to double it! I got the samples from my Dr. and the rest from my pharmacy, who had to special order them. They'd made (I think) by Eli Lilly) and are available in the US. Cymbalta has been approved by the USDA as an anti-depressant and for treatment of pain. It'ls also the first med ever approved for use for fibro. I don't know a lot of people taking it, but those who are all report the same thing - the only side effect is drowsiness, the anti-d hasn't " kicked in " yet, and it seems to be helping their fibro. That's all about I know about it. Dix From: drseuss8675 I am almost believing you are kidding baout this drug! It seems too good to be true? I was looking for it last night, and couldn't find it... Who is the manufacturer? Is it still under testing? Did you get the pills from your doctor or did you go to the pharmacy?
Guest guest
Dix, For those of us who don't have doctors stocking it away for us to get started on, just call around to pharmacies and tell them what you need and how much and certainly, someone in town must have it... I have to that with a couple of my meds. Play the game of see who has it this week... Bekkah
Guest guest
Asked to go on Cymbalta as soon as it became available. First thing I noticed was the stiffness was gone in the morning then it started affecting my pain levels. They have gone way down. Apparently most of my hip and leg pain was due to the fibromyalgia and nerve type pain. The people at the pain clinic call me their poster child and they are putting a lot of their people with neuropathy type pain on this medication. Of all the drugs that we have tried at the Pain clinic I think this is the one that has worked the best for me and almost given me at least part of my life back. From what I have read unfortunately this drug works better on women than on men. I still have pain when a cold front moves thru but even they have lessened. Good luck hope you have as good a result as I have had. Lois in very snowy MI
Guest guest
Hi , My doc just gave me cymbalta yesterday. I asked him two months in a row, and he said no, he had to research it first. So, yesterday he did give me the script. I tired to go to this link, but, it would not allow me too, did i do something wrong? Guest guest
Please remember, Cymbalta is an anti-depressant which, when combines with certain other meds, can cause urinary retention. It's the reason I ended up in the ER because I couldn't urinate at all - had a real scare about kidney failure. The pharmacy computer, the pharmacist, nor my Dr. caught the potential interaction. So if you are interested in taking it, please talk with your Dr. or your pharmacist to see what other meds you may be taking that might cause that interaction. Narcotic painkillers are one. Guest guest
Dear Dixie, Thank you for that info, i just got over having that same problem with mscontin. I hope this is not going to happen again. Yes, i am on pain killers for sure...i will call the pharmacy and ask, but, you would think after all that time he looked into it, he would have known. These docs sometimes, i dont know what they are thinking about when they prescribe meds....yes, i wanted to try this med, but, not if it will make me go thru that again...thanks for the info. I am sorry you had that happen to you as well. It is not a comfortable thing to deal with and very frightening. But, my docs were not worried at all. I had to just about beg my pain doc to take me off the mscontin, as i knew the minute i started it, that issue started....it was a good two months i went thru that.....thanks.....janine Dixie wrote: Please remember, Cymbalta is an anti-depressant which, when combines with certain other meds, can cause urinary retention. Guest guest
Hello, I am only taking 20mg, each night, and it has helped my depression a lot. I have been taking it now for a month and a half. I have to start very slow. I think i am going to see if i can up it next time i see the doc. I have a lot of trouble with antidepressants, this is the first one that has not made me feel weird. I am so grateful, because i was crying everyday on and off for this whole duration. Which is two years. I am not kidding either. I was so depressed, and they could not find anything i could tolerate. So i am just so happy. As far as the pain subsiding.? Well, i just went thru about a week and a half of horrible pain, laying on the couch not being able to move. It has stopped as of yesterday, that severity, was a 10 plus, very unusual for me to have that last that long. I cannot figure out why that happened, but, it was horrible. I thank God, i am back to (normal)??? My pain levels vary from a 4-7, and i know i need to have some type of an upgrade to help me. But, who knows, maybe i will just have to accept this as my life now. So, thats my story about cymbalta...very happy i am not crying at the drop of a hat...it did not matter where is was, it could be a market, and i would just start crying... anywhere, in front of anyone... I hope if this is what you need, you are able to get some comfort....janine ekaiii wrote: What levels (mgs) of Cymbalta has everyone had to reach before they had it affect their levels of pain? Guest guest
New drug fights mysterious ailment United Press International Thursday, September 9, 2004 ATLANTA, Sep 09, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- A new antidepressant called duloxetine offers hope for a mysterious, painful disorder that hits women six times more often than men, a study shows. The ailment is called fibromyalgia, a chronic, incapacitating musculoskeletal disorder, marked by widespread body pain and muscle tenderness, often accompanied by headaches, sleep disturbances and fatigue. While its cause remains a mystery, fibromyalgia has been linked to depression, though not all patients are depressed. Treatment has been mixed but a study published in the current issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism offers the promise of relief with duloxetine, described as a new and different antidepressant. The study says tests showed duloxetine reduced pain and improved a range of disease symptoms, significantly and safely. Copyright 2004 by United Press International. Guest guest
Be very careful with Cymbalta or recommending it to anyone. I was given a prescription for Cymbalta. Took it one night and called the ER, drug induced stroke. I'm 34 yrs old. Aimee in Tx If I can add to this, I don't really share this but for people thinking about this drug I just feel I SHOULD share. I don't know that it had anything to do with this particular drug but a not of caution, I took an overdose maybe a year and a half ago while on Cymbalta. The pain just got to be too much and I couldn't see an end. Fortunately for me, I immediately thought of my then 6 yr old daughter asleep in the next room and thought about how she would feel to grow up knowing her mommy chose to leave her, not that I had to. My husband took me immediately to the hospital where I had a horrible experience and had to stay in the ICU. I am seriously grateful though that while I wis h it had never happened, at least I came to my senses so immediately and was okay because of it. Just wanted to share that very personal experience so that anyone considering it can at least have that information.
