Guest guest
Repeat..from Sue... since the Line got stuck & the website wouldn't come through.. Hopefully this one will:) ? What diet helps reduce ammonia? Hi Dana from Sue, The LOD diet found at : http://www.lowoxalate.info/research.html & at Oxalate Control is a Major New Factor In Autism Therapy." http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/oxalates/oxal-test.pdf ----can also be helpful in controlling ammonia for some as well as TAURINE for controlling ammonia.. ( And activated charcoal.can help.--but take that 2 hours away from supplements or meds... but it does aid digestion... so is fine with foods.) Also--- The Body Ecology diet recommends 20 % protein and 80% veggies, and other good foods.in that proportion.. SO YES.. lowering the amts. of protein can help lower ammonia levels.. and--- Adding HCL in the form of Betaine...or Apple cider vinegar is helpful for digesting proteins.. (one tsp in 8 oz of water is good..with Stevia.. or Lakanto the newest & yummy natural --ZERO calorie sweetener found at http://www.bodyecology.com --but it IS expensive...so --I don't use it for baking. ( BE sure you are not intolerant to fermented foods..before using them--- like vinegar).. After I was cleared of fermented foods..--- which are great for general digestion..--- I can eat many more things without discomfort.) That's why the BED is so good for those that are not intolerant or allergic to fermented foods. According to Dr. Steve ( in the Suzanne Somers book called BREAKTHROUGH) on pg. 235... Dr. states that " HCL causes METHYLATION in the stomach..which is what you want ". on page 243..he also notes HCL helps prevent infection by destroying most parasites and bacteria. (besides HCL is necessary for the enzyme pepsin to break down proteins.) Hope that helps, Sue.... What diet helps reduce ammonia? Posted by: "dana pope" danamichellepope@... danamichellepope Thu Oct 23, 2008 8:19 pm (PDT) On SCDiet my boys eat quite a bit of meat and some veggies. They eat almost no fruit due to yeast issues and cannot tolerate the nut flours or nut butters. As a result of being SCD, they are not able to eat potatoes or rice. But I feel this is causing high levels of ammonia. Anyone have suggestions on how to lower ammonia? Should we abandon SCD? My biggest concern on leaving SCDiet for GF/CF is yeast. Any suggestions?Dana and Garrett, just turned 4, SCD 2 yearsCeliac, ASD, Speech and Motor Apraxia, sensory processing disorder Back to top Reply to sender | Reply to group | Reply via web post
