Guest guest
Jeff and Carl, Talking to an heating/air conditioning guy about cleaning my a/c coils, he refers to outside coils should be done once a year but inside coils don't need to be cleaned often, according to him, as long as I install a UV light above the coils. I didn't interrupt his explanation to tell him I have had UV light in inside coil box for 5 years now and developed mold for first time, BECAUSE house shifted a/c coil pan started to collect water because it wasn't able to drain properly, and the UV didn't stop it from getting moldy at all. Now I have new furnace/ac setup and I cannot even LOOK inside a/c panel which is driving me NUTS.....since that is how I discovered problem with my old ac in the first place. Anyway, people I talked to were associated with NADCA as Carl recommended but I'm finding everyone to be more knowledgeable about doing duct cleaning and then yearly cleaning of outside coils in spring, and tell me to not worry too much about cleaning inside coils. According to them, these are not too important if I just install the UV light. There is a guy here now who I want to open up ac pan area for me to see and he said you have an UV light over it and said I shouldn't have any problem. I said sometimes it has odor and I would feel better if I had an access panel to check myself from time to time...just saying wishfully. He said " moisture mixes with dust and dirt that are always in there and that creates a dampish smell, but I shouldn't be worry about that " . I'd like to sue the heating and a/c industry! They all say the same misinformation...don't worry about smelly, dirty a/c coils because they are ALL that way and that makes it okay they assume. ANYWAY, question is: do outside coils get dirtier or moldier than inside coils? I'm just curious as to why they say yearly cleaning of those is important but not inside coils. Price that I FINALLY got for cleaning inside coils was almost double that of cleaning furnace and outside coils, but person added that I really shouldn't need it too often and with UV I probably will never need it.
