Guest guest
Debby, that is high for fasting. Try eating more evenly all day, even to bedtime, see what happens. Sam
Guest guest
Hi Debby " normal " bg's of 70 - 120 just mean that is what they usually run for people who aren't diabetic. Actually, everyone I have tested (and I get everyone LOL) has run around 85 - 90 no matter when I test them. Even if they just ate Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and dessert! The rats <G> The doctors have come around to thinking that as diabetics we are best off if we can keep our readings as close to the " normal " profile as we can. It has been found though, that approximately 150 is the threshold for damage to begin, and 175 - 180 is the threshold for kidney damage. If your fasting bg's are running higher than usual, and your daytime bg's have continued to be good, the first thing I would look for is some kind of infection. Do you have a cold? Sinus problems? and earache, anything like that. Are you taking medication, particularly steroids . Also cough medicine usually has sugars in it. If the answer to all that is no, then it could possible be the dawn phenomenen, although if your daytime bg's run really good I would have to wonder about that. Sometimes a little (and I do mean little!) snack at bedtime can help that. Meenie BG range > Hi > I have a question about BG ranges. Debby Oops I forgot to address this part of your question, Debby You should check your bg's 1 1/2 to 2 hours after eating to see how your bg's are really doing. Are you on any meds or are you taming this beast with diet and exercise alone? If your bg's are too high in that timeframe you need to adjust your diet or your amount of exercise. (or both!) Unfortunately the doctors don't really tell you how to monitor bg's well. Just fasting is what they often tell type II's!! At least you have a monitor - that is absolutely key !
