Guest guest
Jeff, Good points. But I still think there is enough validity to the concern of infant bedding posing a potential atypical microbial exposure and new borne SIDS that it would be prudent to warn parents not to use old mattresses and layettes. Its not just stachy - or even just mold - that could be the potential for harm. When you think about baby formula being repeatedly spilled, over worked diapers, old mattress pads and crib liners; it seems quite logical that it would be prudent to buy new for each baby as opposed to pulling the old dusty mattress out of the attic rafters. Since they really don't know what causes SIDS for certain, why not eliminate something that has been deemed as a possible cause or contributor? Its just like you shouldn't put your baby's crib in a tree top because when the wind blows the bow may break. Just logic in risk management is what it comes down to, seems to me. And car seats. Oh my gosh, does that bring back memories. Visions of old animal crackers laying hidden under the seat cover. Yuck! Sharon
