I have used PrivateMDLabs. They are quick and reliable, but you have to do the research to know what to ask for and they do not help you interpret the results. But because they use the same lab as my insurance my daughter's Doctors have no problem using them.As far as the hair falling out-I would highly suggest checking your ferritin count-it is the amount of stored iron your body has. It can cause hair loss if it is on the lower end of the lab's scale. My daughter's Hematologist suggest 70 as the number she likes to see. Private Md Labs has an anemia panel that tests iron counts, ferritin, and B-12 (can also affect hair) for 80ish bucks. I checked and they have several adrenal panels and hormone panels for you too. Sounds like your daughter may have POCS-pollycystic ovarian syndrome and it causes

excessive facial hair. My husband has Hoshimotos and tried a gluten free diet. Now when he even has a smidge of gluten he has terrible stomach cramps and diarrhea. I would suggest getting a Celiac Panel done (which now the Gastroenterolgist Society says all people with Hoshimotos should be screened for) before going gluten free. Because once you are gluten free the antibodies will not show up in the blood and you won't have that formal note from the Doctor which seems so important to the medical community.Good luck, MicheleSubject: Re: Home Testing LabsTo: Thyroiditis Date: Saturday, August 4,

hi jennifer,

i just read this from dr. osbornes blog "gluten free society". i have not tried it not have i heard from anyone who has.

"I have double blinded all major allergy testing companies in the US. Act is the most accurate and reliable. I wouldn't consider using any other test."

hope this helps. lois

My endocrinologist refuses to test any othere hormone levels or check the adrenal system even when I've told him that I'm still having lots of problems following my Hashimoto's diagnosis and it seems EVERYTHING I've read says that the adrenal system and other hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, should be checked as they are all affected by the thyroid gland.

I've been told by both her doctor AND mine that "we don't normally do that", meaning, they don't test hormone levels and my endocrinologist only gives out synthroid for Hashimoto's and they don't check any other systems. I'm read to try and find things out on my own because my daughter is only 10 and has excessive hair growth above her lip, and I am having cycles that last up to two weeks then stop for about a week then start right back up again. I'm still really tired and my hair has started falling out again.
