Guest guest
Took my son to a new neuro today (no news with that) and was looking at a poster in the office while we were there. The poster was provided by a company that makes an ADHA drug and it showed how (norepinephrine and dopamine???) effect different parts of the brain. --Sorry, I had nothing to write this on and I'm trying to remember from two hours ago). The poster showed one of these as effecting the cerebellum and stated that one of the things this controls is a person's ability to sort out sounds. It gave me a very HMMMMMMM... Ah ha! moment. There have been many postings from people who say multiple sounds drive them crazy (including me). I wonder if there's anyone who's had this problem and taken meds for ADHD - have they noticed a difference in their hearing issues? Guest guest
I do not know about the sound differentiation while on ADHD meds but I do have a bit of additional information about ADHD and Chiari. I have a son that could be considered pretty severe ADHD. My husband and I have chosen to not medicate him because we homeschool and can take the extra time needed with him and can use his calmer times for learning instead having to have him learn on a set schedule as is needed in most school environments. Added in to the fact that I prefer to keep my cildren off as many meds as possible. When we had the children neuropsych tested I learned a lot from the doc. He was kind enough to take a lot of time with us (He wants to write a paper on the phenotype seen in the pediatric Chiari brain. If anyone is in OR or near enough to Portland and is interested please contact me off list) He explained that yes my son certainly has all the symptoms of ADHD but because he has chiari the ADHD is considered secondary and the meds would likely be less useful than with a primary ADHD pt. The best way to go about treating it is to treat the problem causing the behavior which in our case is increased intracranial pressure. That makes a lot of sense for me because with my son's issues are so much better when he is on Diamox. My daughters also have significant ADD issues that to me never seemed that bad but I guess were pretty noticeable to the doc. I guess the reason their symptoms didn't seem that bad is because I do the same things they do! Hope the info helps, Charnel > I wonder if there's > anyone who's had this problem and taken meds for ADHD - have they > noticed a difference in their hearing issues? > > Ingrid >
