Guest guest
I'm not sure if anyone remembers but I posted a few months ago about Sydney failing her hearing screening. They kept getting no response from her right ear during the screenings. Well we had to wait for 3 months to finally have the ABR (EEG) type hearing test done to test for possible hearing loss or impairment. I was extremely anxious while waiting to have the test done. We just found out today that her hearing in both ears is perfectly fine. Her hearing was within normal limits for all of the frequencies they tested for. We are very pleased to hear this news. I just wanted to share my joy with you all. Take care.

Guest guest
As someone who knows that " punched in the pit of the stomach " feeling of hearing the audiologist say, " Your child definitely has a hearing loss and it looks to be pretty significant in both ears, " I can breathe a HUGE sigh of relief for you and with you. I am glad your news was good! Out of curiosity, did they figure out why she was not responding to sound in her right ear? A. Special Educator Simon Kenton HS 11132 Madison Pk. Guest guest
Thanks . It is interesting that you asked that question because they did not explain that to us. In fact, I've actually had a " horrible " experience with this whole thing so far. We were first referred to INOVA Fairfax Hospital here in Virginia to have the test done. They had a 4 month waiting list. It's a great hospital however, they utilize IV sedation to put the children to sleep. I was very uncomfortable with having her that sedated just to get the hearing test done. So I decided to have it done at Children's Hospital in Washington DC. The audiologist would not tell us the result at the end. She said that the neurologist would mail us the result. So I got a mailed copy of the write up that states her hearing is normal. I am actually going to go back to the ENT now to try and find out why she may not have responded to the other tests in the right ear. My gut feeling is that the probes did not fit her ear very well and so they were not getting a good reading. Sydney's ears are small and each time they tested her the probes kept falling out. The also tested her for fluid in the ear and there was no problem there. She also passed the other hearing test where they put her in a sound booth and test her response by turning her head to various sounds and she passed that as well. So why she failed the initial test is still a mystery. I honestly feel like I always have to do my own research and know which questions to ask in order to get the information I need from the medical folks. It is quite frustrating sometimes. I will let you know as soon as I find out more answers.
