author, Marcell, offers ten steps to take when dementia is

suspected or recognized in a family member:

1. Consider buying Long-Term Care Insurance.

2. Consult an Elder Law Attorney.

3. Call the Alzheimer's Association.

4. See your doctor and ask him/her to prescribe medications for you.

5. If appropriate, ask your doctor to also prescribe an anti-

depressant.

6. Learn the best ways to communicate with a person with dementia.

7. Validate, rather than correct your loved one.

8. Look into the benefits of daycare for your family member.

9. Learn all you can about their condition.

10. Take care of yourself.
