Guest guest
Carl - Once the debacle with antifreeze in the toothpaste manufactured in China, and other products lacking " purity " entered our " commercial mainstream " - ALL products emanating from that country which has had a long history of human rights violations should have been held up for scrutiny. That would include any building materials which would find its way into our homes in the same insidious fashion as the " toothpaste. " I think twice before I purchase anything made in China. Their dishes have had problems. If no one is watching the dishes and the toothpaste, why would anyone think that anyone is watching the drywall. We should have learned our lesson with the pressed particle/chip board for exterior siding. I still see it used in building. Not to promote one company, but Legal Seafoods restaurant which started in Cambridge, Mass. and has now expanded along the Eastern Seaboard as far as Florida and other locales has employed a " check point " type manner of inspection for everything. They are more highly trusted and respected then the government inspectors. And they are industry. Maybe other industries should follow suit. The construction industry has had many problems such as the vermiculite in the insulation called " mica fill " I think. I think it was s-Manville. And the industry as a whole, has not had the oversight it should have had. For example, I think of the pink insulation. Before it was released into the building or homeowner use domain, was it tested for the capacity, when wet to develop mold or for the fiberglass shards to be inhaled in much the same way, fine particulate matter is? I don't think so. My opinion is that certain industries have become so powerful that they become the " driving force " as opposed to the agencies charged with regulating them. It is the old " tail wagging the dogs scenario. Guest guest
I'm with you. I try hard not to purchase Chinese goods or foods. Sometimes you just have no choice. This is because of NAFTA/GAFTA, etc. Happy Resurrection Sunday/Passover to all too!
