the two residential towers in the area.

PLEASE ATTEND THE MEETING TO SUPPORT OUR PROPOSAL FOR CHEMICAL FREE HOUSING!

Background of Chemical Free Housing Ottawa:

Safe Housing Ottawa Inc. is pleased to announce that Action Ottawa has approved

funding for the proposed environmentally safe housing plan to be built in the

city of Ottawa’s west end.

EHA Ontario also graciously thanks the CMHC Affordable Housing Centre for

approval of Seed Funding for our housing project. These funds, amounting to

$20,000 in total, will help us advance to the next stage of the project.

The environmentally safe housing apartments consist of 1 and 2 bedroom units

that will be specially built for the environmentally sensitive in mind.

Construction will tentatively commence mid 2009 with completion hopefully by the

summer of 2010.

The funding will be used to build 24 rental units with an additional 50 units

that will be sold as condominiums to those who agree to the policies of

“smoke-free, scent-free, pet-free and chemical-free living.†For those

interested in purchasing a condominium, and how to get your best value on a

condo by pre-purchasing under the investor program – please contact

Westeinde of Windmill Developments, at Tel: (613) 820-5600, extension 158.

Wireless internet will not be permitted in the building due to health concerns.

However, wired internet services will be permitted within the building, namely

dial-up, DSL and cable hook-ups. Additionally, satellite dishes will not be

allowed at the building.

For an informational brochure on the proposed building, please click here.

A stakeholders meeting will be tentatively held in the Spring of 2009.

Architectural plans, building materials, designs, finances, regulations etc.,

are to be discussed at this meeting. We will attempt to address any questions

and concerns that you might have at this meeting, since the final project

specifications and rules have not yet been finalized at this early stage. The

date of the meeting will be posted on this web site when a date and location has

been established.

The waiting list for the 24 rental units is now full; however, we are still

accepting names to identify the need for additional housing and to fill any

cancellations. We are also taking names for those interested in purchasing units

through Windmill Developments.

Applicants are encouraged to become members of EHA Ontario, if they aren’t

already.

Application forms to be placed on the waiting list for chemical free housing

(Ottawa) can be downloaded here: Application form 1 and Application form 2. Both

application forms are to be completed by the applicant(s) and returned to Safe

Housing Ottawa Inc. as soon as possible. The completed forms can be mailed to us
