Elsie,

I think you have me mixed up with someone. I tried to think who. I had a Mom,

not a dad. And she wasn't on meds.

Maybe someone will respond who is familiar with you message.

I don't know what the reaction to that med would be, at that high a rate. Wish

I could help.

Hugs,

Donna R

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

Amoxicillin for dental prophylaxis

donna Mido are you out there

I asked about amoxicillin before, and you said your dad was OK with

it, not I know the dose - they wantmy very medication-sensitive mom to

take 2,000 mg a few hours before the procedure - any thoughts ??

Anyone who has any thoughts also , feel free to chime in.

Thanks in advance

My Dad takes amoxicillin before dental procedures with no ill effects,

but as we all know, everyone is different.

Thanks for the info. You get such a hands tied feelig, cause the

dental work has to be done OR she might get an infection and would be

put on an antibiotic,... but in order for it to be done she needs the

antibiotic. It just seemed to be a large dose, so I was not familiar

with that much at once.

Elsie, is the antibiotic because of a previous joint replacement? If so, 3 1/2

years ago

when I had my shoulder replaced I was told that before any dental work, for 5

years, I

needed to take a large amount of antibiotic to prevent infection at the

operative site. Then

2 years ago I was told by my dentist, GP and surgeon that it had been proven to

not be

necessary. I now have dental work done without the antibiotic and have been

fine.

Hi ,

My husband had rheumatic fever as a child, and as a result, he always had to do

the amoxicillin with our beloved former dentist (who passed away a few months

ago).  The new dentist that took his place said that the amoxicillin is not

necessary.

Helene

I thought that the biggest reason for prescribing antibiotics prior to dental

procedures had to do with mitral valve prolapse problems...I was not aware that

it was for other things.
