Guest guest
Lawsuit filed against Southern Nevada Health District over former employee's death April 22, 2009 11:24 PM The state agency charged with protecting and promoting public health may be harboring a killer, a killer in the form of toxic mold. So says a second lawsuit just filed against the Southern Nevada Health District. Contact 13 Chief investigator Darcy Spears first brought you this story after a health inspector died of mold poisoning he got from working inside the health district. " I'm mad. I'm mad as hell. The health district ruined my life! They ruined my family's life, " said Dan uk. In the summer of 2007, Dan uk documented his dying days. Photos, environmental testing and medical records show he was exposed for years to toxic mold growing over his desk in the health district's main building on Shadow Lane. " I needed to be moved out of the building. You did not move me in a timely manner. You made me stay in the building and this is what is happening to me, " said Dan. The man whose dedication to his job led to a torturous death is at the center of a federal lawsuit. " There are no words to describe how horrifying and tormenting his death was, " said Dr. uk, Dan's wife. His family and a second health district employee, named Laurie Boswell, have now filed suit in district court. " I've been made sick because my husband brought home the mold spores and I was near him, with him, caring for him, loving him, " said Dr. uk. The lawsuit alleges the health district failed to keep its own headquarters healthy. " All of us were so angry about what had happened to him, " said Chrissy uk. An attorney for the uk's and Boswell's says the health district knew about the mold and wilfully disregarded the safety and health of employees and their families. The lawsuit says the district failed to take any precautions, resulting in severe disability and death. Laurie no longer works at the health district. She is on disability due to her mold sickness. The attorneys fear others may have been affected and are considering a class-action lawsuit. The health district wouldn't comment due to the pending lawsuits. http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=10233572
