WENDY--I think you're doing wonderfully well considering all you've

been through! And I think it's a good idea to start taking your

Prozac again. The serotonin reuptake inhibitors DO give us more

usable serotonin in our brain (they do it by not allowing our brain

to drink it up so fast); the other way to spark a release of it is to

eat sweets and carbs--no wonder you've been craving some of them!

Your weight loss seems pretty good to me too--especially for the

procedure you've had. Without a bypass, naturally it'll be a bit

slower. Keep plugging away at it and we'll beat this thing together--

I, too, went off my antidepressant (chemically the same as Prozac). I

admit to having a harder time eating properly too--we BOTH need to

take it! I think I remember that you went off yours rather abruptly

and that won't do--you could easily trigger a bit of major depression

(I had a hard enough time tapering mine off when I knew the script

would run out...). Give it a week or so and see if things don't

improve; I think the meds will make a big difference!

Hang in there, . I think your weight loss is great with the procedure you

had not being a bypass. Don't worry about what the relatives will think, just

be proud of your weight loss so far. You are on the right track, and it will

keep coming off. Try and think positively!

!

28lbs in 7 weeks is nothing to sneeze at! You're doing great! Are you

taking any vits or protein supps? If you aren't, this could be a reason why

you are hungry. If you are taking vits and supps, then perhaps you are not

getting enough. Have you gotten any blood work done since surgery?

I threw everything out that I couldn't eat. I refused to experiment just to

see if I " could " eat certain things or if I " could " eat the same amount as

before. I was told that sugar was a no-no, so I find it easier to just say

" I can't " have it rather then " I shouldn't " have it. I was told to only eat

a certain amount, so that's what I ate -- no more or less. I did have a

problem with " grazing " in the beginning and learned to keep carrot sticks

and fruit handy. Grazing, for me, is the same as head hunger. Grabbing up

food was a habit, nothing more. By keeping it out reach and out of sight, I

couldn't grab it in passing. I had to learn to be patient with myself. I

had to constantly remind myself that it wasn't going to come off over

night. It did take time.

When I had my surgery 5 years ago, I didn't know and Don (the

VitaCouple <G>). I didn't have the choices in protein I have now because

didn't know the choices were there. No one told me where to find the

vitamins I needed. I didn't have the kind of support a group like this

provides or that the monthly meetings at and Don's house provide.

Heck -- I didn't know there were so many WLS patients out there!

So, remember that we are here when you need help getting over a rough spot.

Take advantage of us -- we enjoy it. Talk don't eat. Throw out all the

sugar-laden " goodies " and replace them with sugar-free popcicles and such.

Say " no I can't " instead " no I shouldn't " . DRINK WATER! Exercise as often

as possible. Be good to yourself. Look in the mirror, smile and say, " I

love you " .

Okay, rambling lecture over. I shall get off my soap box and go take a

shower. Take care.

Big Hugs,

SuzieB :-)

Hi Sheri

Thanks for the kind words. I had a lap VBG 7 weeks ago. I seem to be the only

hi Suzi

I recognize all you have said. I know all this but for some reason at the moment

it just isnt sinking in. Iam avoiding chucking out all the bad food in the house

as I want things to be as normal as poss for my two kids. I also know that they

would benefit from a healthier diet,This I need to do gradually.

Thanks for the kind words any way I do listen but it is taking a while to sink

in.

I had RNY on January 7th sweetie and I am only down 39 pounds so it may

just have a lot to do with our metabolism Good luck sweetie and don't worry

about what others think I believe we are bashing ourselves enough

TN

update on me

Hi

as you may of gathered by my earlier post I am not doing to well.I really

think I have had the wrong op for my problems. Should of known this would of

happened. I did suspect as much but didnt want to admit it to myself. Plus a by

pass isnt easy to get in this country.

So know I have to make the best of what I have. I went and got myself

weighted today and have lost another 6 pounds or so. Not really sure of exact

weight last time. I am going to go weekly to the nurse at my local Dr s and hope

fully this will keep me in check. I was disappointed with the lose that is 3

weeks so really expected more. But at least it is coming of.That is about 28

pound in 7 weeks. Better of than on.

I have also started to take my Prozac again, didnt really want to but I need

it to clear my very muddled head and the appetite suppressant part is a must.

Hope fully next time post I will be feeling a lot better.

YVONNE--That was good advice to , hon; Prozac et al DOES take

awhile to work. I don't know if I should have said to give it only a

week or so--it could well take a bit longer than that... My Luvox has

the peculiar feature (or I do! LOL) of making itself felt about a

half hour after my first dose--but that's not the usual reaction!

>>>I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet.<<<

Ava, several drug companies have programs to help people with the

cost of medication. Have you ever checked into that with the

manufacturer of the medications you need? Also, what about that

medication insurance that you pay something like $7.95 a month and

you get significant discounts on prescription medication? Guess the

social worker in me comes out in situations like this. :-)

Hi , Sorry to hear about your disappointment of your surgery, but

27 pounds, is great! This can't be all about weight, what about your

health? 27 pounds gone forever and your health should only get better.

Hang in there girl and be good to yourself. Are your exercising?

Exercising will help. I never like to myself, but since I started it

feels good to do something good for me.

  • 3 years later...

Well, I have had a few things happen this week so I thought I'd give an update on my situation. As you know, I've been waiting since June for an appointment with a specialist to get a 2nd opinion on my neuro.'s dx of MS for me. So, 3 1/2 months later, I finally got the word that I have an appointment.... for DECEMBER 15th. Hello! That's like, 6 months later from the time I started trying to get in at all. But, the lady on the phone told me that was typical for these docs because they are so overbooked. Great.

This was very discouraging to me. I found this out on Wednesday. On Thursday I began to get very upset because my arm and leg were going from tingly to painful, my eyes were bothering me more than usual, and I felt very depressed. My dh was very concerned when he came home for lunch, seeing me so upset. He called my neuro. to see if there was something that could be done (steroids, etc.). My neuro's office said that if I wanted to get a 2nd opinion, then there was nothing they could do for me until after that appt. Like I said before, the appt. is not until December, which is THREE MONTHS AWAY!

I began making some phone calls, and was able to get in touch with some very nice ladies from the local MS support group, which I have never been to before. They gave me a lot of reassurance, but seriously encouraged me to seek medical help immediately for my current condition. They suggested calling my regular family doctor, so I did. He prescribed me 5 days of 20mg of Prednisone. I took the first one this morning, and my arm is feeling better, but not my leg just yet.

Also, I got in touch with a different set of neurologists in Memphis, TN, and was able to get an appointment for Sept. 22nd, which is not even two weeks away. I am really psyched about that! I hope this neuro. in Memphis is worth the trip over there, and that he'll be able to give me some much needed answers.

Anyways, I just wanted to post this for those of you who like to keep up with these kinds of things.

Take Care!
