Guest guest
http://www.toledofreepress.com/2008/12/05/will-i-be-home-for- christmas/ Will I be home for Christmas? Written by Szyperski | | letters@... >>> (portions of article deleted)>> At the beginning of this year, we made the momentous transition from a 1930 home with thick, wooden interior doors, curved archways and glorious tall ceilings to a 1974 home with hollow interior doors, no archways, and ceilings that don't allow for our tree topper. What our new house lacks in style, it also lacks in quality. In the first couple of months, despite multiple inspections, we were faced with leaking windows, gas leaks and water leaks. That small patch of mold that we were assured was almost a nonissue turned out to be half a bathroom full. Though the mold remediation put any health concerns at ease, our dream-come-true second bathroom now sits partially pared down to the studs while we all share one bathroom half the size of our old one. Sometimes it feels as if we traded in our real house for an artificial one. It's not just the structural inadequacies of our new house that make it pale in comparison to our old one. The old house was our first house. My husband and I colored almost every single one of its stark, white walls. We put new flooring down and new light fixtures up. The house we bought was not the house we sold; we had made it ours.
