Guest guest Posted December 1, 2008 Report Share Posted December 1, 2008 hi---i'm new to this group & haven't taken much time to sit down and read through past posts. so, i was wondering if anyone in this group has had a young child exhibit seizure-like behavior/gasping/odd behavior. my 2-yr-old son started having what we thought were staring seizures (petit mal seizures)---according to our pediatrician back in late sept. anyway, they started around the same time that we started to run our furnace. i asked doctor after doctor if there could be a connection between these seizures and mold or something coming from the furnace and they all brushed it off and acted like we were crazy to think that way. then, we saw another doctor that said my son was not having any type of seizure, but that it was just behavioral and he might grow out of them. anyway, they did other tests (eeg's/mri's)---all basically negative. so, we tested our house for mold and there was a 'high' amount. we left the house, went to my parents (the odd spells stopped within 24-hours after getting my son out of the house). we stayed at my parents for 3 weeks while we ripped all the carpeting out of the house (replaced with hardwood laminate) and also had the duct-work and furnace cleaned. also, installed a uv-light onto the furnace. my son did not have any spells while at my parents and we brought him back here four days ago and he's still doing fine. we did retest the house and the mold level went done a HUGE amount. so, i believe it was in the duct-work and the furnace was forcing it out. it was definitely a two-month nightmare!! i'm just frustrated that not one doctor would really listen to us or believe us. it was a pain/and also very costly---but, we felt we just had to do this to help our son. if we would've listened to our docs and just stayed here believing it was behavioral or epilepsy, i really feel that tons more damage would've been done to my son. i still want to take him to another doc now to have him checked to make sure 'all' is fine after being exposed for that period of time. i just wanted to send this post to see if anyone else has had a similar problem-----and also to maybe let someone else see this and to help their child or other family member that is having " odd " symptoms that can't be explained and the doctor's are brushing you off because they have absolutely NO idea.
